As the second anniversary of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework Agreement approaches, more action is needed to secure a #nature-positive world. One option is to attempt to measure our impact on #nature in the same way we measure our #carbon footprints. But there are hundreds of metrics to measure the state of #nature, so which ones could best help us to evaluate #natureloss and #biodiversity restoration? Read this piece by Dorothy Maseke ,CFIRM, FSD Africa and Gavin Edwards, Nature Positive Initiative to find out: https://lnkd.in/egjNfidW

🍃Habitat restoration: It's a real privilege to be involved in the recovery of lost habitats in some small way - with young children ourselves, we are so pleased to be doing something that is contributing to the improvement of the environment for future generations. The part that we play is in visualising the future using CG/3D imagery, for companies like Environment Bank and others who are developing the plans and strategies for these biodiverse habitats. Here's one of our aerial images, featured in this article. 🖼
The core purpose of BNG policy has always been to restore England's damaged ecosystems by replacing the habitats we have lost over the years. To ensure BNG can deliver on its goal, we will need to take a positive approach that embraces a range of solutions. Read our latest blog where we discuss why it's so important to find balanced solutions that ensure BNG works in the way it was intended - to deliver large-scale biodiversity recovery and to create practical mechanisms that enable developers to meet their requirements. https://lnkd.in/ebCmJXz2 #BiodiversityNetGain #NatureRestoration #Planning #BiodiversityLoss

🏛 The EU recently adopted the #NatureRestorationLaw (NRL) and that's good news. The NRL is a key instrument for achieving #biodiversity protection objectives. But what about implementation? 🍀 🤝 In France, the regional COPs for ecological planning occuring all around the country are a relevant scale for designing measures enhacing nature restoration and gathers divers subnational stakeholders. At IDDRI we questionned what active role and concrete actions French #cities and #regions can initiate towards nature restoration ? Agnès Hallosserie and I are excited to share some enlightening guidance developed through a cross-sectoral and multi-scale approach. ➡ Check out our new blog article

Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRSs) are essential to improving the state of nature and to help it count in England. You can't manage what you're not measuring, and this legislative requirement should help measure and manage the improvement of nature across the country. #environment #sustainability #nature #biodiversity #climatechange
Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are a UK government initiative to identify and prioritise opportunities for improvements to biodiversity across England. They must publish, accompanied by a map, by March 2025. Megan Lindeman of Westmorland and Furness Council summarises how localised evidence will influence the wider-environment in our new blog. How did England get to mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain? Here is how our story unfolded, with the BNG baton being passed between national government, local government, industry and many other stakeholders who played a critical role in BNG becoming mandatory. Excellent work by Alice Stuart for collating our BNG story, and we'd love for your inputs - please let us know if there is anything to add: https://lnkd.in/eVyXA8Wv #BNG

💭What is Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) - and why the recent interest? 💭 🐝 BNG is an approach to development and land management to ensure that habitats for wildlife are left in a measurably better state than they were before the development. 🐛 BNG is now mandatory in England under Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended by the Environment Act 2021). 🐜The legislation requires the majority of new development to deliver at least a 10% increase in its biodiversity value, through a deemed condition on the grant of every in-scope planning permission. In other words, this is a legal requirement for development to be #NaturePositive. 🐞 The 10% increase can be delivered onsite (within the development boundary) or offsite (outside the planning application boundary). 🐌 But how we might effectively measure and trade in offsite biodiversity credits, when the complexity of ecosystems and location dependencies of nature raise challenges with interchangeability? To find out more, join us on Tuesday 3rd December at 18.30 in person at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment or online, for our knowledge session on 🌳 Biodiversity Net Gain and Nature Recovery 🌳 🌿 To join us for this session, the registration link is in the comments 👇 Ming Zee Tee Sarah Hill-Smith Flora Curtis Yomna Elewa Marina Soares Riley Forson Dominika Leitane Emma ShortHarriet Hall Catríona Campbell #ESG #legalvoicesforthefuture #lawyers #BNG #biodiversity #biodiversitynetgain #nature Photo by Andy Willis on Unsplash

Great photo. Looks like the two of you have had an argument and are marching off in different directions.. The RSK Wilding Responsible Body crew will be there in force (though not me, sadly)
