The recent report by WSP in the UK and The UK Water Partnership shines a spotlight on the untapped potential of a circular water economy. It’s a call to action for innovative solutions to resource recovery, solutions that Eco Clarity is proud to lead. 🚀 Fat, oil and grease (FOG) is one such resource that holds immense potential for transforming wastewater management. At Eco Clarity, we’re turning FOG waste into renewable biofuels, preventing sewer blockages and driving down carbon emissions. The UK has the chance to follow in the footsteps of pioneering nations like the Netherlands, where circular water systems are driving sustainability and economic growth. Here’s why FOG recovery is essential: ✅ Prevents sewer clogs, reducing maintenance costs. ✅ Generates biodiesel feedstock, supporting the transition to renewable fuels. ✅ Transforms waste into a valuable resource in the circular economy. By integrating FOG recovery into the broader circular water framework, we can unlock new market opportunities, shrink carbon footprints and build resilient systems aligned with the UK’s net-zero goals. 💡 Read more and download the publication https://lnkd.in/grHcS-qF #CircularEconomy #FOGManagement #Sustainability #NetZero

I recently had the pleasure of talking to Richard Clarke, Founder & MD of Highland Carbon about carbon offsetting for Green Circle Solutions. Carbon offsetting is something we get asked about regularly. Put simply, it is the practice of compensating for greenhouse gas emissions, typically CO2, by buying carbon credits. Each credit represents the reduction or removal of one tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere. Companies purchase these credits alongside their efforts to reduce emissions directly, often by switching to green energy sources, improving energy efficiency, or changing operational practices. These credits fund projects such as reforestation and renewable energy projects. In the UK, initiatives like Highland Carbon’s contributions to afforestation and rewilding have earned recognition, including being named ‘Best UK Carbon Unit Supplier’ for four consecutive years by SME magazine. Such projects support not only emission reduction but also biodiversity, water quality improvement, and other environmental benefits. 🌍 What is the difference between carbon removal and avoidance projects in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM)? 🔬 Carbon removal is the elimination of existing carbon emissions, by absorption, after they have entered the atmosphere. Carbon removal projects can take place in two ways, either with the use of technology or done naturally. Examples include: enhanced rock weathering, biochar, agricultural land management, and blue carbon projects. 🚫 Carbon avoidance is the prevention of future carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere. Some examples include: renewable energy, household and community devices, such as cookstoves or biogas, and waste management. Both types of reductions are equally important in the fight against climate change, and at ClimateSeed, we encourage a balanced approach. By understanding and supporting both carbon avoidance and carbon removal, we can make significant strides towards a sustainable future. How to create a portfolio of projects to maximize impacts? Of the nearly 500 million tonnes of greenhouse gasses that Australia emits each year, methane accounts for around 21%. * In Australia, the largest sources of methane are from the waste, agriculture, and energy sectors. 🗑️🐄💡 LMS Energy is a pioneer and world leader in capturing methane from landfills and using it to make renewable energy. We are also developing new technologies to expand our methane abatement into the agriculture and mining sectors. ♻️ We want to see as little waste as possible end up in landfill. However, while waste is still being generated and appropriate recycling schemes are still being developed, it’s vital that the methane that landfills produce is captured and destroyed. *From the most current Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) National Inventory Report 2022, p. 54, 58.
