September is #BiodiversityMonth, a time to celebrate, recognise and support biodiversity across Australia and the world. "Biodiversity" refers to all of the different types of "life" found in one location. This means the variety of different flora, fauna, fungi and micro organisms that comprise a natural habitat. These species all work together within their ecosystems to provide a balance in that particular location that supports healthy life. Changes in our environment, from human intervention, introduced threats, climate change etc can throw out this natural balance, negatively impacting the local ecosystems. Much of the work on our nature reserves is protecting and supporting these areas to regain their natural biodiversity for future generations (of all species). So while biodiversity is important every day, join us in giving it a bit of extra attention this month. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/gTXqtTTf #LoveOurBiodiversity #Biodiversity #NatureConservation

Today, May 22nd, we celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity! 💚🌱🌎 The purpose of this day is to remind us of the richness of nature and the importance of preserving biodiversity. Biodiversity refers to the genetic diversity of species, species diversity, and ecosystem diversity. It can be seen as nature's immune system. Why is biodiversity important? 🐝 Without biodiversity, there are no conditions for life on Earth 🐝 Biodiversity maintains the balance of ecosystems. The loss of one species can destabilize the entire ecosystem 🐝 Diverse ecosystems are more resilient to climate change and other threats, ensuring continued access to food, clean water, and other essential resources 🐝 Forests and marine ecosystems act as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide and helping combat climate change Biodiversity loss threatens these vital functions. Therefore, it is crucial that we act now to preserve and strengthen biodiversity. Today is a great day to think about what you can do for nature, either personally or at the level of your business or organization. It's also a wonderful day to enjoy nature! ☀️ #biodiversity #biodiversitymatters #partoftheplan #biodiversityday #fornature

Exploring the Complexity of Biodiversity A Deep Dive. Biodiversity is the foundation of our planet's health, supporting ecosystems that provide critical resources and services. However, its complexity presents significant challenges for conservation efforts. Here are five specific points highlighting this complexity: - Interconnectedness: Every species plays a unique role in its ecosystem. The loss of one can have cascading effects on others and the environment. - Habitat Loss: Rapid urbanization and deforestation are fragmenting habitats, threatening species survival. - Climate Change: Altering climates are shifting habitats faster than species can adapt, leading to mismatches in ecosystems. Invasive Species: Non-native species can outcompete local flora and fauna, disrupting established ecological balances. - Pollution: Contaminants in water, air, and soil can drastically reduce biodiversity, affecting both species richness and ecosystem services. Understanding and addressing these challenges is vital for the preservation of our planet's biodiversity. Join the conversation and share your thoughts on how we can better protect our natural world. #Biodiversity #ConservationChallenges #EcosystemHealth #rocksteadyconsulting #ProtectOurPlanet #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #EcoAwareness

As we mark World Wildlife Day, what are the best ways to better protect biodiversity in Australia and New Zealand? Here are my thoughts. #sustainability #LinkedInNewsAustralia Biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth, including the diversity of species, ecosystems, and genetic diversity within species. It encompasses everything from microorganisms to plants, animals, and ecosystems, and it plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems and supporting human life. From the earliest days of life on this planet biodiversity has not been stagnant. Some, or probably most changes have occurred without the presence of man. With us here changes in biodiversity are every day occurrences. Whereas some may be avoidable, others are the product of the ever increasing human population. As I believe this is the major cause of change, population stagnation is, simply put, the answer. To a lesser extent, pollution could be eliminated if we were to walk together to achieve this common goal.

What *is* biodiversity – and why is it important? 🤔🌍 From individual species to entire ecosystems, life on Earth takes many forms – and its delicate balance allows environments to thrive, and us humans to survive. 75% of the world’s food crops rely on pollination by bats, bees, and birds; animals and plants depend on preserving delicate food ecosystems and food chains; and human-made climate change threatens the survival of all living things on Earth – including us. ProVeg is attending the UN Biodiversity Conference in Colombia. Stay tuned to learn more about what we can do to preserve biodiversity, and what ProVeg will be advocating for at the conference later this month! 🇨🇴 #ProVeg #Biodiversity #UnitedNations

🌍 Happy International Biodiversity Day! 😱 Are you aware that biodiversity loss is pushing over a million species towards disappearing? 👉🏻Why Biodiversity Matters: Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth, providing us with clean air, water, and food. Each species plays a unique role in maintaining our environment's balance. 🌱🦋 Unfortunately, human activities are disrupting this balance at an alarming rate. ⚠️Near Misses in Biodiversity Destruction: 🐸 In Australia, the introduction of cane toads in the 1930s led to a huge drop in native animals like the northern quoll, disrupting the entire ecosystem. 🌎✨ 🐠Overfishing cod in the North Atlantic in the 1990s caused the cod population to collapse, harming the fishing industry and the ocean's balance. 🐟⚖️ 🌳Deforestation in the Amazon rainforest is not only reducing the number of tree species but also endangering many animals and affecting global weather patterns. 🔥 ⚓️France's largest pelagic trawler is capable of catching more fish in one day than an average fishing boat does in its entire lifetime. 🚢🌊 🙌🏻Why Should You Care? Healthy ecosystems are essential for clean water, air, soil, climate regulation, and food production. Every species lost is a loss for humanity. 🌎✨ Cheers to International Biological Diversity Day! Comment with your favorite endangered species, share this post 💚 #BiodiversityDay #ProtectOurPlanet #ActForNature
