https://lnkd.in/d3t9tipM We lack the fundamentals. We think trees are sticks of carbon. Not every plant or crop can survive the soil. Biodiversity takes centuries to create, which is why we shouldn't disrupt it. and large scale tree plantation doesn't help. We need knowledge about ecosystems, and community led preservation of our planet, regionally.

Today, we celebrate the World Environment Day 2024! 🌏 According to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), land degradation due to human activities undermines the lives of at least 3.2 billion people globally. Land degradation also fuels climate change and biodiversity loss. So, collective actions for ecosystem restoration are urgently needed. This year’s “Our Land. Our Future” campaign emphasizes the crucial role everyone plays in the environment and climate that transcends generations. It’s time to join hands and become #GenerationRestoration who can take bold actions to restore ecosystems and Mother Earth.

There has been a lot of talk of protecting 30% of the planet for other species. We know that's not enough...particularly if the 70% humans exploit and simplify are the most biodiverse and productive areas. Here is another approach that has been around for a while but seems to have gone by the wayside. https://lnkd.in/gXTE3-a8

The call to embrace Nature-based Solutions in the fight against climate change is louder than ever before. e.g by Global EverGreening Alliance However, what exactly does this mean? Simply stated, Nature-based Solutions entail collaboratively leveraging and enriching natural ecosystems to achieve societal objectives, encompassing protection, management, restoration, and creation endeavors. The concept is premised on the knowledge that healthy biodiversity ecosystems i.e. forests, grasslands and wetlands produce diverse services necessary for human wellbeing. It recognizes that drivers of biodiversity loss and climate change are similar hence need similar solutions. In that regard, the extent to which nature provides its ecosystem services depends on how we invest in and implement Nature-based Solutions.
