🌍 World Food Day - 16 Oct, 2024 🗣️ "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future" While the world’s farmers produce enough food to feed the global population, 733 million people still face hunger due to conflicts, climate shocks, economic downturns, and inequality. The most vulnerable are often agricultural households, reflecting widening inequalities. Food is a basic human right, recognized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Yet, over 2.8 billion people are unable to afford a healthy diet. Unhealthy diets lead to malnutrition, affecting people across socio-economic classes. To build a better future, we must ensure diversity, nutrition, affordability, and accessibility in our food systems. Transforming agrifood systems can help mitigate climate change and create inclusive, resilient livelihoods for all. 🌾 #WorldFoodDay #RightToFood #ZeroHunger #Sustainability #HealthyDiets #ClimateAction

Of the over 8 billion people on the planet, over 2.8 billion people are unable to afford a healthy diet since healthy diets are considered balanced in energy intake, diverse and adequate in all nutrients. Yet over 733 million persons are facing hunger in the world due to inequality and repeated weather shocks resulting from Climate Change. Not to mention the far reaching effects of food waste itself on Climate Change. Climate Change disproportionately affects our rural poor citizens, their productivity and their resulting agriculture yields. Yet one-third of the world's food is produced by small-farmholders. On this #WorldFoodDay, we join in amplifying our voice for the right to universal access to safe and nutritious food across our communities, our State and our Nation. #SDG2target1 #ReduceFoodWaste #WorldFoodDay2024 #LeaveNoOneBehind #OurClimateLiteracyStory

🌾 Let's talk numbers: In 2022, households worldwide wasted over 1 billion meals every day, while a staggering 783 million people faced hunger and a third of humanity grappled with food insecurity. 🍽️ These statistics from the UN Environment Programme's report shows that the food chain system across the globe needs to be improved to ensure that lack and excess does not exist in the same planet. 💡 How do YOU come in? How can we collectively address this disparity and build a more sustainable food system? 🌍 World Food Day is a powerful reminder of the right to food and its importance for a better life and future. 🍽️ While farmers produce enough food to feed the global population, 733 million people still face hunger due to climate shocks, conflicts, economic crises, and inequality. The most vulnerable, including agricultural households, are hardest hit, exposing widening disparities across and within countries. Over 2.8 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet, and malnutrition—whether undernutrition, deficiencies, or obesity—affects every country. Too many are forced to rely on low-cost, unhealthy foods, and some lack access to fresh or varied options. To truly address hunger, we must transform agrifood systems. By making food systems more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive, we can reduce their environmental impact, tackle climate change, and ensure food security for all. 🌱🌍 Everyone deserves the right to nutritious, affordable, and safe food! Let's work together to build a healthier, more sustainable future for all. 🔗 Learn more at the FAO website: https://lnkd.in/gXd-FPH2 #WorldFoodDay #RightToFood #ZeroHunger #SustainableFoodSystems #ClimateAction

#snsinstitution #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking Food scarcity has become a pressing global concern, affecting millions worldwide. The alarming rate of climate change, coupled with burgeoning population growth, has significantly exacerbated this issue. Rising temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns have led to dwindling crop yields, while water scarcity and soil degradation further compound the problem. Conflicts and displacement also disrupt food systems, leaving vulnerable communities without access to nutritious sustenance. The consequences are far - reaching, with malnutrition and hunger pervading many regions. To combat this crisis, sustainable agricultural practices, efficient food distribution and innovative water management systems are crucial. Moreover, addressing economic inequalities and supporting small-scale farmers are vital steps toward ensuring global food security and promoting human well-being.

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) that we're promoting this week is: (#2) Zero Hunger - End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture This is why we care, and why you should too! "The number of people facing hunger and food insecurity has been on the rise since 2015, with the pandemic, conflict climate change and growing inequalities exacerbating the situation. In 2015, 589 million people were experiencing hunger, and by 2021, that number had risen to 768 million. Projections show that by 2030, approximately 670 million people will still be facing hunger – 8% of the world’s population, the same as in 2015. Despite global efforts, too many children continue suffering from malnutrition and the current annual rate of reduction in stunting must increase by 2.2 times to meet the global target. To achieve zero hunger by 2030, immediate and intensified efforts are required to transform food systems, ensure food security and invest in sustainable agricultural practices." It’s #WorldFoodDay. Food is a fundamental #HumanRight🍽 The world’s farmers produce enough to feed everyone on the planet, yet 733 million people still face hunger. Conflicts, climate shocks, economic challenges, and deep-seated inequalities all contribute to #food insecurity, often impacting the poorest and most vulnerable, including agricultural households themselves. Transforming our agrifood systems offers an opportunity to fight hunger, reduce inequalities, and support resilient, climate-friendly food systems that nourish everyone: https://bit.ly/40bcoDf 📸Featuring a Kenyan #stamp celebrating the nation’s Big Four Agenda, which prioritizes #FoodSecurity and nutrition as part of its vision for a healthier, more sustainable future.

As the world continues to grapple with the food #crisis, we need to remember that this problem didn’t emerge overnight #Climate #change, among others, has been a major driver of these worsening trends. Ironically, although global food production has nearly quadrupled between 1961 to 2020 and increased by 50% between 2000 to 2020, more people than ever before are going hungry. Resolving the situation we face today requires a #sharper focus than ever on transforming our #food systems to make them more #sustainable while feeding a growing global population.

"What keeps you awake at night?" This question, posed by David Shukman at Innovation Zero yesterday, yielded some all-too-familiar anxieties; resource strains, surface water flooding, and the impact on vulnerable populations. But it isn't all negative. Lea Berrang Ford spoke of "win-win" solutions; behavioural shifts that we can all make which are both good for us and for our planet, like low-carbon diets. It's a powerful reminder that positive change is within our grasp, hopefully helping us to sleep a little better at night. #InnovationZero #ClimateChange #HumanSecurity #WinWin #PositiveChange
