We did not expect the overwhelmingly positive feedback from schools, teachers and students where we've conducted 'Veilig Bewust' workshops. “When we started, we just wanted to make a difference”, Mathijs de Vries expresses in this interview. We've witnessed firsthand the impact of empowering students with essential cyber awareness skills with a Veilig Bewust certificate. Inspired by this success, we're eager to expand our workshops to even more schools, reaching a wider audience and fostering a culture of digital safety and inclusivity. www.veiligbewust.nl Together, let's continue to educate and empower the next generation for a safer online world. #CyberEducation #DigitalSafety"

Summer is officially over, and pupils are back to school. As we have seen in the news over the last year, there is a continuing surge in cyber-attacks targeting UK schools, both in frequency and complexity. In 2023, 347 cyber incidents were reported in the education and childcare sector - an increase of 55% on 2022 (BBC report). That’s why it is important for educational institutions, parents and students to take cybersecurity seriously and learn how to protect themselves against a cyberattack. And, many attacks are preventable. PCA can help understand the threats schools face, whilst giving them the chance to take action and minimise the damage an attack could cause. Well said, Monique. Given the rise of increasingly complex digital risks, it's paramount that we teach our youth the importance of data privacy. This knowledge equips them with the necessary skills to prioritize cybersecurity awareness and navigate the digital landscape safely. #Cybersecurity #DigitalLiteracy #SecurityAwareness
This current generation of kids and teenagers spends a great deal of their time online. In many cases, they are more digitally literate than the rest of us. However, as everything digitizes, so does crime. To keep young people safe online, we should be committed to educating them about #cybersecurity and encouraging them to take ownership of their #OnlineSafety. #Digitization

Cyber threats are a growing concern for young people, but behind the statistics are real stories. Meet personas that inspire our mission to create safer digital environments for students and schools. Disclaimer: These personas don't represent the entire society. During our research, we focused mainly on high school teachers and didn’t have the chance to conduct in-depth interviews with students directly. However, creating these imaginary high-school students helped us create a broader picture of the challenges and needs for whom we're designing supportive materials. Our main objective? To understand the real issues and pain points high school students face, ensure the resources we create truly address their needs. Interestingly, safe internet use and managing incidents were not the top concerns raised. Instead, deeper issues like cyberbullying, privacy concerns, dealing with peer behaviour, and supporting mental well-being emerged as priorities. 💡 With Mateusz Pękala, we’re dedicated to creating a more cyber-aware society, one step at a time. Are there any parents of teenagers here? Experts? Irina Tkeshelashvili, Martyna Wilk? What do you think is the biggest digital challenge students face today? The Morning Show with Declan Meehan on East Coast FM dedicates one hour to the topic of Cyber Safety for Young People Our CEO, Alex Cooney joined Declan Meehan, presenter of The Morning Show, Eoghan Cleary from Temple Carrig School in Greystones and student James Fennell to talk about cyber safety for children and young people and how we can protect them online. Speaking on the show, Alex Cooney said, "Our concern is the younger cohort. We do a lot of work with primary school aged children and they are enormously active online. In theory, 13 is the minimum age requirement for all of the popular online services that children use and yet we know that 84% of the 8 to 12 year olds have their own social media accounts so we have very young children who are essentially ill equipped for the online experience that they're going to have and we want to see that they have the possibility to thrive in the digital world. We have to acknowledge that this digital age brings tremendous opportunity, positivity, and potential for advancement and innovation. However, I think the point is that children who are going online and have been going online from this very young age have had this independence online - we see some parental engagement around the primary school age group, but not enough unfortunately, and that's because parents feel also ill equipped for this. I'm not going to say we can solve it because you're never going to entirely remove risk but you can address it. There's no one silver bullet so it's not like there's a button you can switch on or just one piece of regulation is going to work. We need a whole societal approach - to our mind the parenting piece is crucial because they're such a key influence in kids' lives. If we can upskill parents, give them the confidence to parent on this that could really change. Parents are integral to this puzzle with children right at the centre of it. Then we've got the education system that needs to be equipped for the digital age which it really isn't at the moment. It's all fine to talk about smartphone bans but where is the focus on educating kids to be safe in these online environments? Then you've got the tech company responsibility piece where we need really robust legislation and the final piece of the puzzle is government. We need that leadership. We need that focus on ensuring that these digital environments are going to be made safer for children." 🎧 https://lnkd.in/dJv2CrF6

72% of children face cyber threats. Control the online activity not through force, but through learning. Starting the conversation is tough. Only 39% of parents are aware when their children face online threats, despite 83% of children claiming they would alert their parents if they felt threatened online. The "Keep It Real Online" campaign from New Zealand nails it. They turn tough talks into easy, even funny moments. Key tips for parents: 1. Start early, keep it casual 2. Make it a two-way conversation 3. Use real-life examples The campaign was a success: 100,000 video views and 1,000 shares in three days. It gives parents natural ways to talk about online safety, like they do with road safety. Resources include: - A dedicated website with tools and advice - Educational materials for schools - Conversation guides for families - Curriculum-aligned resources for teachers Beyond just one campaign: We all must get engaged: parents, family, educators, tech companies, and law enforcement must work together to protect children online. Watch this brilliant campaign video and let me know what you think.
