But what drives me isn’t the distance or the elevation. It’s the purpose behind every step. I’m doing this to support Make-A-Wish, an organisation that does something remarkable – it grants wishes to children battling life-threatening illnesses. It’s not just about the wish itself; it’s about restoring a sense of hope, joy, and possibility when it’s needed most. A single wish can ignite a spark that changes everything. Here’s the truth: this isn’t a solo journey. It’s about community, and that’s where you come in. Whether or not you’ve ever hiked a mountain, you can be part of this. You can help lift these children and their families when they need it most. Even a small contribution can have a huge impact. Today felt like the perfect time to jump back into LinkedIn. The last 10-12 months have been quite a journey both personally and professionally. This post isn't meant to relive the last year but to encourage everyone that when your life is turned upside down unexpectedly, it can lead to wonderful outcomes. I found through prayer, reflection, and unwavering support from friends and family, what was initially something extraordinarily difficult became a true blessing. Some will notice I have a "gap" in my work history now. About 4 months. 4 months to jettison a lot of baggage, get my mind and body back to neutral (thank you Brendan Ferns for recommending Getting to Neutral by Trevor Moawad), and to dream again. 4 months to reconnect with my wife and start to make decisions that are focused on me and my family first, not what a job might dictate or require. Call it a gap or a sabbatical or whatever you'd like; I knew in order to be the best for my family and for wherever I chose to go professionally, I had to reset. In October of 2023 I got to meet with some of the team at Grubb Ventures. I wasn't sure if I was ready to come off the sidelines yet. Was I mentally ready? Did I complete my "factory reset?" A few things were clear that were critical to me: 1. The leaders truly cared about the people there. It wasn't lip service or just some core value splattered on a wall. 2. They believed the company was ready to make smart, strategic changes in response to recent growth (I like leading through change believe or not). 3. Grubb cares about the community they live and work in. I joined Grubb as its CFO in November (I know I'm late posting about it). And today we sorted and packed eggs at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC. We did it together. Just like we do each day at the office. I'm so thankful to the team at Grubb for choosing me. I'm grateful to everyone who supported me this last year, especially my wife and family. And while I know God doesn't ever have to reveal His plan for me, I'm blessed that He continues to orient my steps.

It's Friday, and I think we could all use a little corn and cheese. As in me and Deevon La Rue being corny and cheesy, and narrating this video of our coral restoration volunteering together. Yes, we are still working on raising funds to complete our gear and get additional research and conservation training certifications. Thank you *so much* to those who have helped us get this far. While also seeking and submitting proposals for paying client work. While also doing excellent client work. While also promoting client work (see posts on Mother: Sisterhood in the Wild film from earlier this week). And as Wes would like you all to know, "he be scrubbing too." And FYI, this isn't bad grammar, it's AAVE. This Friday, I wish you all the freedom to be natural, silly, cheesy, corny, joyful, authentic, and at ease with who and where you are in life. Even if it doesn't fit within the parameters of those who will never love you anyway. I invite you to do what you love, even if others don't understand it. I challenge you to seek and embrace the core of who you are, even if it isn't consistent with the "brand" you're told you need to have. Yea it’s a five minute video, who watches those anymore! However, if you followed us over the course of Serve Week 2024 (The Ocho) this is an awesome wrap up and great work by the team. We try and use LinkedIn to open a window into our culture. And while Foundry Commercial isn’t perfect and we will always have work to do in pursuit of our standards, I think this is one of the things we get really right.
