Organizing competitions that don't actually exist can cause confusion and let down participants. It's important to be honest and upfront when planning events, so people know what to expect. By focusing on real opportunities and being transparent, organizers can build trust and create a positive community of participants.

Creating a spectacle can be big or small, but the most important element is infusing whimsy and play intentionally into every detail! What matters most is creating an environment that’s immersive enough to create an escape for attendees; something to give you relief from the hustle and bustle of life. Bringing people back to a "childlike" space of playing and sharing not only heals, but it builds strong community bonds too. Successful events immerse you in a new world so that you briefly forget about the one you’re living in. What do you think? What makes an event special? ✨

Something I'm learning that's necessary for community: decentralization. Example: letting members organize events vs. having our HQ staff do it all. This is HARD because you gotta trust your members and also empower them. For example, a member is hosting a golf tournament at Pinehurst Golf Retreat. Sold it out in 72 hours. Members wanted to golf together and another member wanted to lead the experience. So we helped the leader get Malbon Golf on board to make the experience awesome + let them use our platform to drive interest. If it goes well, we'll try to empower more members to do stuff like this and hopefully will increase out event output + quality. At first, I thought we had to be involved in everything to make Hampton dope. Now my opinion has changed. Letting members lead the org and make stuff happen might be the way. But its scary! Fingers f-ing crossed. BTW if you want your brand to be part of these events...holler: ac@myhampton.com

Don't make this mistake Summer is often quite an inactive period for societies, but it's important not to neglect your members. You can still provide them with value, keep in touch and build your community using Huzzle's newsletter feature. Below are 5 ideas for what to include in a newsletter to engage your society. You could even host virtual events throughout the summer! When it comes to the start of the new academic year, you'll have a head-start because your members will be excited about the upcoming events and very much feel involved in the society. For new committees, this is a great way to ease yourself into your roles, introduce yourselves and set the society up for success.
