It is an international anniversary established by the United Nations to ease conflicts and confrontations between peoples and capital on the premise of mutual respect through dialogue and compromise. In May, to mark World Day for Cultural Diversity Dialogue and Development, why don't we learn about 'The gaze of the Other : Documentary heritage of the Salesian apostolic Vicariate in the Ecuadorian Amazon, 1890-1930 ' and discuss the meaning of this Memory of the World.

Today is #IndigenousPeoplesDay, a day of reflection and celebration. For those of us in US #nonprofit and #philanthropy spaces, it can also be a time to consider the intersection of our work and Native communities and causes. Consider these stats from Native Americans in Philanthropy and Candid (https://lnkd.in/erwKmBi): ◼ From 2002 to 2016, large US foundations gave, on average, 0.4% of total annual funding to Native American communities and causes ◼ 20% of large foundations give to Native communities and causes. Even among this specific group, most give only one or two grants. ◼ The majority of grant dollars are for program support (56%); only 15% goes to general operating support 💡 Important takeaways for improving support include providing long-term general operating support to Native-led organizations, and pursuing Native-led solutions. What does Black Economic Solidarity look like in practice? I'm still trying to figure it out! After translating for a meeting related to Afro Tourism in Colombia, I told a few colleagues that we should try to get folks together to share what we are learning in different spaces talking about Afro Tourism in Cali, Colombia. Thank you to folks like Martinique Lewis who created ABC Travel Greenbook App and many other practitioners who have created similar resources for the inspiration to make a simple directory highlighting fellow black businesses in travel and hospitality in Cali, Colombia. https://lnkd.in/eMWVg9Rt The outcome of this first meeting was a call to create a directory of black-owned businesses and touristic experiences, so I got on Notion and figured out how to make something that looked like a directory! We are still adding businesses & tourist experiences to this resource, but if you are in Cali for the COP 16, this is a resource you can use to support some black businesses while in the city! Two of the projects featured on this list are from Joseph Fallola Ibarguen Rivas with Muntu en America, and Andres Mauricio Diaz Vasquez with Viche Mina! November is National Native American Heritage Month As we celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Native American communities, let's also acknowledge the unique challenges they continue to face. From governance systems to sustainable agricultural practices, Native Americans have had a profound impact on the development of the United States. But how much do we really know about Native American history and culture? This month, let's make a conscious effort to learn more. Visit a museum, attend a virtual event, or watch a documentary about Native cultures. Let's also recognize the contributions of Native Americans to our modern way of life. From food cultivation to influencing government structures, their impact is undeniable. As we celebrate, let's also commit to promoting equity and health awareness in Native communities.
