wNC childcare experts react to emergency childcare funding ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - North Carolina legislators recently passed a $67.5 million stopgap bill to help keep the doors of childcare centers across the state open. The emergency funds look to help as federal funding came to a stop at the end of June, but it’s still far less than the $300 million many child care advocates wanted from the state. “It’s not enough money,” said Western North Carolina Early Childhood Coalition (WNC ECC) Director Greg Borom. Borom explained that the childcare crisis affects all North Carolinians, whether they have children or not, because it makes a big impact in the state’s overall economy. Exciting Update for Early Childhood Development in NC! In February 2019, the North Carolina Early Childhood Action Plan (ECAP) was launched, laying out a vision and road map with 10 essential goals to ensure that every child in North Carolina has a healthy start and can reach their full potential within safe and nurturing environments. The 2024 Update highlights significant activities and local initiatives in four goal areas, including the implementation of a trauma-informed child welfare practice model across all state agencies. At One Place, we are deeply committed to fostering a trauma-informed community. Through programs like Foundations for Resilience and by integrating a trauma-informed approach into all our services, we align our efforts with the goals of ECAP. Finding the Perfect Childcare: A Guide for Families. Choosing the right childcare is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your child’s future. The environment you select plays a crucial role in shaping their growth, learning, and development into active, engaged individuals. For many families, this process can feel overwhelming, with questions like: •Will this centre meet my child’s needs? •Is my child going to be safe? •Will my child thrive here? •Can I afford it? •How does this centre compare to others? The good news is, you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. The Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) offers a comprehensive resource to support families in making informed decisions. Their website provides valuable tools to help you: *Find childcare services near you. *Compare fees, vacancies, inclusions, and quality ratings. *Estimate out-of-pocket costs for childcare. *Evaluate services side-by-side. *Access expert advice on children’s development, education, and parenting. *Take the stress out of finding childcare by using these resources to ensure your child receives the care, education, and opportunities they deserve. Your peace of mind—and your child’s bright future—are worth it. https://lnkd.in/gDcAGHMN

💬 What do we think about today's "plan for change" speech? ✅ We’re pleased to see the Government’s focus on early years education, which we’ve urged as a priority, and especially the specific mention of social as well as academic skills, which are key to a child’s development. 👨👦 The root causes of children not meeting developmental milestones are complex – a view shared by our members leading work in this area. To shift outcomes, we need to support families holistically as well as increase access to quality childcare. 🔎 We must stay focused on long-term outcomes, and we hope the work towards these targets includes joining up systems in every community to identify and meet needs at an early stage. While the early years are hugely important, we must also keep working to support older children who are already moving through the education system.
