Thank you for highlighting the importance of CTEprograms. As someone who has dedicated my career to advocating for CTE, I couldn't agree more with your insights. In my recent book, I dive into the transformative power of CTE and its ability to bridge the gap between education and real-world careers. Your point about rejecting the false choice between college and CTE is crucial—CTE programs offer pathways that integrate academic learning with practical skills, preparing students for a wide range of careers, including those requiring higher education. The success stories you shared resonate deeply with my experiences. By providing nationally-recognized certifications and fostering partnerships with public universities, local businesses, and industries, CTE programs equip students with the tools they need for lifelong success. It's essential that we continue to support and expand these opportunities to ensure that every student can thrive. Let's continue to advocate for CTE as a vital component of our education system, one that prepares students not just for jobs, but for meaningful careers. Thank you for your commitment to this important cause 😊

In public, high schools & colleges, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs provide opportunities for students to explore careers & industries, while also developing a growth mindset &engaged in socio-emotional learning. Unfortunately, the Educational Industrial Complex perpetuates a myth that the choice is college OR CTE programs. #statenisland. CTE programs are embedded into the standard, academic curriculum& are required credits for high school and college credits at non-for-profit, public institutions With over 1000 successful graduates of my CTE program, specifically Biotechnology & Medical for health professionals, I can attest that rejecting the binary choice and taking advantage of CTE programs embedded in public school curriculums is a wise choice. Since 1984, the State Education Department has overseen CTE programs, introducing authentic work experiences and 21st-century technologies into classrooms and fields. CTE program helped by father in 1938 survive D-Day invasion and brought him up the ranks to the highest levels in Building Management in the NYC Civil Service, and my children in college engineering programs (applied academic learning) today! CTE programs offer nationally-recognized certifications, college dual credit & connect students with public universities, local businesses, &national industries across all 16 sectors of the economy. This is not limited to Skilled Trades & Manufacturing as most people quip. CTE is student-connected, career-connected applied academic learning for all students! Academic speciality content knowledge is revered as well as experience in the CTE framework By participating in a CTE program, students gain valuable skills, certifications, and degrees that make them upwardly mobile for a lifetime of success. CTE is a way to make better, more affordable college choices or enter the workforce with confidence. Take it from one of my students, who aced a EMT course in 6 months after her high school education, and worked part time as she worked her way through nursing school, then graduate, nursing school! CTE is a continuum like a rainbow where you cannot find an ending but your journey with color your life! CTE is uniquely American for the success of the American Centuries of the Future! Let's stop looking at European of Asian models! CTE is an unpolished gem in an American education system; it needs burnishing&be supported so are kids will shine! Don't let middle-mangers of education, carve up the framework and supplemental funding;CTE only works as a whole where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole! 🌟 Empowering Educators for a Brighter Future! 🌟 As a Coordinator - Centre for Students and Customer Initiatives (CSCI), I had the incredible opportunity to conduct a session in a Dynamic Faculty Induction Training Program at Atmiya University for the newly joined Faculty Members. 👀 Stumbled across the #College & #Career Success course recently developed by Connecticut State Community College system led by O. John Maduko, M.D. and am impressed by the approach and design: - Required 3-credit #CareerDevelopment course in a students first semester that facilitates career awareness and exploration. *Importantly, this isn't First Year Seminar with only one class on careers... it's the next-step evolution of that approach. - Aligned to #GeneralEducation learning outcomes--including diversity, equity, and inclusion--to satisfy required credits and not creating unusable (and later stranded) credits - Part of the broader #GuidedPathways approach that leverages governance and change management infrastructure to co-design with faculty and staff - Passed a #system-wide policy that ensures equity in the student experience across the state system [This is similar to the work that Mary Gatta and Niesha Ziehmke did at Guttman Community College CUNY called "#EthnographiesOfWork," a model to strive for] These are just two of what is hopefully a windfall of other institutions recognizing the need to front load career awareness and exploration as a required part of general education that prepare students to make more informed choices about their future. One of the next steps in the movement is to ensure that the #skills learners gain from these types of coursers--and their program broadly--are visible, verifiable, and digitally discoverable.
