Smith, the only undefeated HBCU team left in the season, has just broken into the Division II top 20 rankings—showcasing some of the best football talent in Division II and building momentum toward a CIAA championship run. 🏈 A Legacy of Excellence: Johnson C. Smith’s legacy stretches back to 1892, when its predecessor, Biddle Memorial Institute, played in the first Black college football game, defeating Livingstone College 5-0. This tradition lives on in the annual Heritage Classic—a symbol of the deep-rooted heritage these schools bring to the field. 🏆 Winston-Salem State's Stronghold: Known as a powerhouse in the CIAA, Winston-Salem State has faced setbacks this season but is determined to regain its footing with a win on Saturday. Credit to Judge Lippman, Lawrence Buterman, and the whole team at Latham & Watkins for a thorough, thoughtful, and actionable report on the vital topic of combating antisemitism at CUNY, a crown jewel in the public education system of New York. Their recommendation for a revamp of the portal where CUNY students can file complaints about antisemitic or discriminatory behavior and learn of investigations, summarized at page 12, stands out as something CUNY leadership can tackle in short order and as something all organizations can learn from. A very insightful - and entertaining - piece from Rachel Coldicutt. The message is really important and what I take away is that we need to look differently at tech if it’s going to work - fairly - for everyone. Too often in the past couple of years, the fundamentals have been overlooked. ‘Good’ tech requires strong foundations including people, data and digital infrastructure. It might be more seductive to sit on the AI hype curve but it really won’t get us anywhere good - spending a lot of time and money, and harming people in the process. I really do believe in the power of data to transform people’s lives for the better (if I didn’t I wouldn’t have spent 12 years of my life working on it). So let’s make sure the things we build contribute - genuinely - to better lives (yes, economically as well as socially and environmentally) for everyone #data #AI #techforgood #datascience

David Gray and Susan Harig, SPHR, are among the first graduates of the University of Denver's Leadership in the Outdoor Recreation Industry (LORI) program, equipped with new perspectives, skills and connections to advance in their field. Developed in partnership with The VF Foundation, the program's curriculum was collaboratively designed by Daniels, the Josef Korbel School of International Studies and the Sturm College of Law. Nicknamed “philanthrocapitalism” by journalist Matthew Bishop, its followers believe that business thinking and market methods will save the world—and make some of us a fortune along the way. #Criticism. There are many criticisms of philanthrocapitalism beginning with the limited transparency and accountability involved. There are also concerns that private philanthropy erodes support for governmental spending on public services.
