We are deeply saddened by the passing of Karen Alexander, Mayor of Salisbury and a longtime NCLM Board Member and Past President. Her thoughtful leadership and commitment to public service through a calm and pragmatic approach will be remembered in Salisbury and across North Carolina. As a member of the NCLM Board of Directors, she helped shepherd the organization through several years of great change, including the aftermath of the 2017 five-alarm fire which destroyed the League’s campus, COVID-19 pandemic, and more. Mayor Alexander will be greatly missed by all who knew her. As her League presidency was coming to an end in 2022, Southern City magazine profiled Mayor Alexander, and she shared her approach, which aptly summarizes her legacy and provides wise words to start a New Year: “I like to listen. I like to hear every single voice… I just like doing the work. That is my reward, to see it come together.” To read the full profile, visit https://lnkd.in/eXA-Ruhf.
