⚖️ How can a #PeopleCenteredJustice (PCJ) approach be applied to resilience? 🔍 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: The process begins with a comprehensive assessment that maps the overlapping risks and crises affecting communities. This involves identifying root causes such as elite capture, clientelism, and marginalization. 📊 #𝗣𝗖𝗝 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Combining legal and justice surveys with relevant data, this assessment translates findings into #justice needs. For instance, displaced individuals may face unresolved justice problems, like the loss of crucial documents. A PCJ assessment helps identify these needs and connect individuals with information on government support. 🚧 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀: Understanding the political, legal, and institutional barriers is vital. By identifying obstacles to accessing resilience resources, justice providers can work with communities to pinpoint effective pathways—formal, customary, or informal—that remove these barriers. 🔄 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: While both resilience and PCJ focus on individuals, they also emphasize the importance of strengthening wider systems, markets, and institutions. Collaborating with donors and governments can ensure that resilience capacities are available and effective within markets and communities. 💪 Therefore, this framework promotes community empowerment by addressing justice barriers while ensuring that people’s voices shape responsive policies. 💡 Take a deep dive on #PCJ in our latest paper by Jonathan Papoulidis, Swati Mehta, and Nate Edwards ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eEpxhzNn #SDG16Plus #JusticeForAll #AccessToJustice #PCJ #NYUCIC #G7Plus

On this very important day, consider the #94CallstoAction: actionable policy recommendations meant to aid the healing process in two ways: acknowledging the full, horrifying history of the residential schools system, and creating systems to prevent these abuses from ever happening again in the future. Prevention, according to the CTAs, will happen by: 1. Teaching all Canadians the reality of Indigenous Peoples' treatment 2. Creating educational and economic opportunities for Indigenous Canadians so they can fully participate in society #nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #94CTAs #positivechange
