I was sent an interesting read about a national certification for de-escalation training across the country. Currently, the National Policing Institute (NPI) and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) are collaborating on creating a course that would be taught across the country. I am in favor of a standard set across the board. However, how will the instructors, course material, and quality of the presentation be monitored? There are the two courses being utilized to develop this program, Integrating, Communications, Assessment, and Tactics (ICAT) and Crisis Response and Intervention Training (CRIT). I am a huge fan of ICAT, but I am partial because I work for PERF and teach it. I will need to do some research on CRIT. Is your administration and/or training officers aware of what could possibly be coming? I there a way to be ahead of the curve and start investing in programs that are proven?
