As a PR intern, finding the balance between work and personal goals is crucial for success. Here are some strategies that can help: 1. Prioritize Tasks: Create a daily or weekly schedule to prioritize tasks and allocate time for personal activities. 2. Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life to avoid burnout. This might include setting specific work hours and disconnecting after work. 3. Effective Communication: Communicate with your supervisor (placement host) about workload and deadlines to manage expectations and ensure you have time for personal pursuits. 4. Self-Care: Make time for self-care activities such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones to recharge and maintain well-being. 5. 🌟 This February, we spotlight Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, showcasing CTE’s transformative role in shaping accessible, diversified career pathways beyond traditional four-year degrees. The evolving landscape of employment highlights an increasing appreciation for practical skills and lifelong learning, with many industries recognizing the value of CTE credentials over conventional college degrees in certain roles. CTE’s progression from its historical roots to a comprehensive blend of vocational training and academic rigor is noteworthy. With federal investments surpassing $1.4 billion, CTE initiatives are empowering students through internships, on-the-job learning, and the acquisition of industry-recognized certificates, signaling competence to prospective employers. Remarkably, over one-third of high school students are now engaged in CTE programs, experiencing enhanced graduation rates, employment opportunities, and earning potential. The innovation and diversity in CTE program implementation across states and local communities underscore a collective effort toward aligning educational outcomes with labor market demands. These initiatives are pivotal not just in workforce preparation but in laying a foundation for lifelong success across various career paths. However, the journey towards fully integrating career readiness into K-12 education continues. We must advocate for earlier career exploration and inclusive access to diverse vocational pathways. As educators and industry partners, our dialogue should focus on refining these programs to ensure all students are equipped for the future workforce. Let’s commit to advancing CTE’s impact and reach during #CTEMonth and beyond. #CareerTechEd #FutureOfWork

The PACE program is offered at MILLER CAREER & TECHNOLOGY CENTER in the Katy Independent School District. The acronym stands for Professional Advancement through Career Education. PACE is a competitive course offered to graduating seniors only, which has gained popularity over the last few years. PACE students must have a GPA of 3.8 or higher to apply – in other words, high achievers drawing the top students from across the district. During the present 2023 – 2024 school year, R.G. Miller | DCCM partnered with PACE, by providing a 17-week internship for graduating senior Nicholas Ding. Nicholas, a student at Seven Lakes High School worked with various members of our engineering teams under the guidance of R.G. Miller’s President, Mark Gehringer, PE, Chief Executive Officer, Jack Miller, P.E., and Vice President of Development Operations, Caleb Stone. It was an ideal partnership as Nicholas learned first-hand about the industry and multitude of projects currently under development in and around the Houston metropolitan area. Being guided by several of our industry’s most knowledgeable mentors, Nicholas gained hands-on experience in a professional workplace environment, attended learning sessions, participated in daily team meetings, and earned honors credit with PACE. Nicholas plans to attend Texas A&M University in the fall with an engineering major. #RGMiller #DCCM #DesignDevelopGrow #sevenlakeshighschool #paceprogram #katyisd #ATM #CivilEngineering #LandDevelopment #SiteDevelopment #Engineering #Development #Engineers #PublicWorks #Sustainability #Hydrology #Transportation #GIS #WaterResources #Water #Wastewater #WaterInfrastructure

Say No to Dummy Colleges: In today’s fast-paced world, many students fall into the trap of enrolling in dummy colleges—institutions where attendance is just a formality, and the focus is more on getting a degree than gaining knowledge. But here’s the truth: a degree without skills is just a piece of paper. If you’re doing a full-time job while pursuing a “full-time” education but skipping lectures and assignments, you’re missing out on the essence of learning. Education is not about ticking boxes; it’s about acquiring skills, building networks, and preparing for the challenges of the professional world. A strong foundation in education not only enhances your career prospects but also helps you grow as an individual. So why settle for shortcuts when you can invest in meaningful learning? Tips for Students: ▪️Choose colleges that offer quality education and encourage participation. ▪️If you’re working, consider online or part-time courses that align with your schedule. ▪️Focus on practical learning and internships to complement your studies. Remember, the time and effort you invest in your education today will shape the career you build tomorrow. Say no to dummy colleges. Say yes to real education. What’s your take on this? Let me know your thoughts in the comments ! #CareerGrowth #SayNoToDummyColleges #CareerDevelopment #LifelongLearning #EducationForGrowth #WorkAndLearn #InvestInYourself

The HBCU New York Classic-Saturday, September 14, 2024 Howard University defeated Morehouse College (class of 1992 graduate) I am trying to track all of Pathways in Technology Early College High School graduates of HBCUs and so P-TECH graduates please email if you have graduated from an HBCU and I do not have the logo. P-TECH 9-14 students signed up for dual enrollment programs at higher rates, attempting and earning more college credits than the comparison group students by the end of four years in high school". MDRC P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success Implementation, Impact, and Cost Findings from the New York City P-TECH 9-14 Schools Evaluation New findings in this report indicate that the P-TECH model increased students' postsecondary degree completion, particularly for male students, and boosted internship and dual enrollment rates, even during the pandemic. "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. These impacts for both genders are statistically significant". Dual enrollment programs offer high school students a unique opportunity to earn college credits while still completing their secondary education. These programs allow students to enroll in college-level courses, either online or on a college campus, simultaneously earning credit toward both their high school diploma and future college degree. One of the primary advantages of dual enrollment is the acceleration of academic progress. By taking college-level courses, students can get a head start on their higher education journey, potentially shortening the time and cost required to obtain a college degree. This early exposure to college-level coursework also helps students develop essential academic skills and prepares them for the rigors of higher education. Moreover, dual enrollment programs provide students with a taste of college life and independence. They have the opportunity to experience the expectations and challenges of college-level academics while still receiving support from their high school teachers and counselors. This experience can be invaluable in helping students make informed decisions about their future educational and career paths. Additionally, dual enrollment programs promote academic rigor and challenge for motivated students who may feel limited by their high school curriculum. By offering a broader range of courses and subjects, these programs cater to diverse interests and learning styles, allowing students to explore areas of study not typically available in a traditional high school setting. In conclusion, dual enrollment programs offer numerous benefits, including academic acceleration, college readiness, and expanded educational opportunities. By participating in dual enrollment, students can enrich their high school experience, better prepare for college, and lay the groundwork for future academic and professional success. #talentserve #internship
