What made you originally want to be an engineer? Because my Dad was an engineer on the Apollo Mission and he came home and talked about how his teams were better when there were female mathematicians on the team. This discussion between Melinda French Gates and her daughter Phoebe is a great example of how influential early role models are. Melinda's Dad and his female #STEM colleagues were pivotal in inspiring her to consider and subsequently pursue a career in engineering. We don't know what jobs will look like in the future, but as Melinda predicts, we know that computer science and #AI will have a massive impact on our society. So, it's imperative that women have equal opportunities in creating the innovations that will shape our world. Collaboration of different experiences and perspectives are key in creating technology that works for all. The #materialityassessment first arrived on my radar about 6 years ago, right at time when I was looking to expand my toolkit for what business could do to improve access to opportunity. An assessment to help organizations figure out and focus on their most relevant issues to address and opportunities within their leverage felt like an important starting point. As the emergence of #doublemateriality formally expands the definition of what could be material beyond just those issues that have influence on enterprise value to also consider the actual and potential outward impacts the organization and its operations have on the economy, the environment, and people, it feels like even more critical bedrock for business decision-making towards a more just and sustainable world. I'm no expert (I find BSR and qb explainers very useful, linked in the comments!) but I'm interested in what this means for the direction and effectiveness of business in contributing to more positive outcomes in the world. And so I'm excited to facilitate a leadership lab convo about what this all means with Sam Hartsock inside the Girls Club Collective (and grateful to Lis Best for creating the space for this convo!). 🎯 Quick story time: As a proud alum of PSG College Of Technology myself, it's almost surreal to see Foxsense Innovations as one of the top recruiters at our alma mater. A few years back, my co-founder Ramanuja Naidu Gorle, and I were a couple of 20-something year olds who decided to risk everything and work on our entrepreneurship dream alongside Vijay Proddhutur. Ram and I left our comfy jobs at Goldman Sachs and ventured into the unknown, not knowing if we were making the right move. To make things harder, the pandemic was just around the corner and took us by complete surprise. Fast-forward to 2024, and just like Vivek Suriyamoorthy, I'm glad to see Foxsense Innovations among a list of other wonderful companies, including our former employer.
