Safe drinking water is essential for public health and development. USAID celebrated signing an agreement to promote quality assurance testing for drinking water and foster safety management for rural communities to ensure water quality in Manyara, Tanzania. USAID will operationalize this agreement with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) through the #REALWater project. The USAID Water for the World research plan supports Tanzania’s efforts to improve rural water services and keep drinking water safe. The research will help develop plans to provide professional lab testing for water systems managed by RUWASA. #REALWater will evaluate the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the Water Quality #AssuranceFund through collaborations with the Ministry of Water (MoW), RUWASA, and communities in the #Mbulu and #Hanang districts of the Manyara region. Over 78,000 people will benefit from the evaluation, and the results of this evaluation will elevate the consideration of options to expand to other regions of Tanzania. Access to clean water transforms lives. Since 2012, Water For People Uganda, with funding from charity: water, has partnered with kamwenge district Local Government to ensure sustainable water and sanitation services through the #Everyone #Forever Model. One success story is Bicweka Chance, a retired school inspector from Kihuura village. Before Water For People’s intervention, his family relied on a local dugout in the valley, riding a motorcycle 4 kilometers to fetch water that was often contaminated, risking their health. Today, thanks to the rehabilitation of the Nkarakara piped water system and the water extensions, his community has clean, accessible water. “Water is life. This project has brought life to our community,” says Bicweka, reflecting on the health, economic, and educational benefits of having safe, accessible water. The Nkarakara piped water supply system rehabilitation benefits seven villages in Kahunge Town Council (139 #Yard #taps and 21 #public #stand #posts), and the extension of piped water serves 35 villages across Nkoma and Kahunge Sub Counties, as well as the Town Councils of Kahunge, Kabuga, and Rukunyu (933 #Yard #taps and 118 #public #stand #posts) Together, we’re creating hope and a brighter future with clean and sustainable water supply. #CleanWater #Sustainability #WASH charity: water kamwenge district Brenda Achiro PMP Cate Zziwa Nimanya - PMP® Ministry of Water and Environment, Directorate of Water Resources Management, Uganda

Washing your hands with soap and water is still one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs and protect your health. Yet, millions in Papua New Guinea and billions globally still lack access to basic handwashing facilities at home, school, work, or health centres. For over 40 years, the European Union has been supporting access to clean water and sanitation in Papua New Guinea, and will continue helping schools, health centres and communities. The EU-funded Klinpela Banz Projek (WaSH 2), currently implemented by UNICEF and UNOPS, supports access to clean water and sanitation for the people of Jiwaka Province. Water is the key to MANY THINGS. Over the years, we’ve seen how access to clean #water can have a positive impact on #education, #health, #nutrition and safety for girls and women. We provide water purification kits to schools and households as one of the many ways to support clean water for communities. With access to water that is clean and safe to drink, and hot water in their home, children — especially girls — get to experience: 💧More time for studies as they spend less time walking to collect water. 💧Less exposure to water-related diseases (and less school missed due to illness). 💧More protection for girls and women as they spend less time searching for water and firewood to boil it for sanitation. In just one year, the Solvatten solar-powered, water collection and treatment system helped 2,292 children and their families in Zambia access clean, safe and hot drinking water. You can donate a water-purification kit to help communities solve many challenges with one simple resource: water. 🙏 Praying Before Eating: A Rural Uganda Tradition. In our community, praying before eating is more than just a habit - it's a way of life. It's a moment to express gratitude for the food on our tables, to acknowledge the hard work that went into growing and preparing it, and to recognize the blessings in our lives. But for many in our community, this tradition is under threat. Food insecurity and poverty mean that meals are scarce, and the opportunity to give thanks is a luxury they can't afford. That's why our meals project is so important. By providing nutritious meals to those Kids in need, we're not just filling bellies - we're restoring dignity, hope, and a sense of community. When we pray before eating, we're reminded of the power of gratitude and the importance of sharing our blessings with others. So let's come together to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors and friends. Will you join us in supporting the meals project? Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to a hunger-free community where everyone can give thanks for the food on their table. Let's keep the tradition of praying before eating alive, and let's make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. ------------------ I'm Ssembatya, Executive Director of GRM I live in Gamba village, and working with vulnerable children and young adults 🌱 in rural Uganda. Since 2020, the SMEC Foundation has partnered with Action on Poverty, and we are proud to share the recent completion of joint efforts across the School Kitchen Storeroom Project. Funded by the SMEC Foundation and implemented by Self Help Africa, this initiative is part of the larger Home-Grown School Meals Project. The aim is to combat hunger and enhance nutrition in schools across Zambia, supported by the World Food Programme and the Zambian government. The Foundation, along with SMEC alumni the Busbridge family, supported the construction of kitchen storerooms across four primary schools, which now serve as a hub for nutrition education and better food management practices. These storerooms, built adjacent to the school kitchens, address the critical issue of storage space, ensuring that cooking utensils and non-perishable foods are stored hygienically and conveniently. Over 5,000 students at Kansangwa, Mwambanzovu, Nsangano, and Sala primary schools now benefit from improved school kitchens and feeding programs. This support is a step closer to creating a brighter future for these children, one meal at a time. Preparations are well underway for our food parcel distribution in Garissa, Kenya. Garissa, located in northeastern Kenya, faces serious humanitarian challenges that have worsened over the years, primarily due to prolonged droughts and climate change. These have disrupted traditional livelihoods like pastoralism, resulting in substantial livestock losses and driving up food insecurity. The impact? Rising malnutrition, especially among children, and increasing dependency on aid due to limited alternative livelihoods and soaring food prices. Beyond food, Garissa faces critical gaps in health and education: ➡️ Health: Few health facilities, often under-resourced, struggle to provide basic services. Water scarcity heightens health risks, leading to waterborne diseases. ➡️ Education: Access to education is strained, particularly for girls, with limited schools and resources in the area. ‼️Why our support matters: These challenges have created a cycle of dependency that’s hard to break without sustainable solutions. Our food parcel distribution is a small but essential step toward supporting these communities through difficult times. We’re working to ensure families receive vital aid, but long-term solutions are key to empowering Garissa. Let’s help make a difference together. Support us in bringing hope and resilience to Garissa’s communities. #HumanitarianAid #FoodSecurity #Garissa #Kenya #CommunitySupport #MakeADifference Hamza Ahmed Fasel Ahmed Ikhlas Alvi Sophia Naheed Salman Anwar

The Lack of Clean and Safe Drinking Water in Pyessa Community located in Abuja Nigeria. Pyessa Community has an estimated number of 5,000 people with no access to clean and safe drinking water, this is impacting the health, well-being, and livelihoods of the people. Access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental human right, yet this community struggles daily to meet this basic need. The lack of adequate water supply has led to numerous challenges, including health issues, limited economic opportunities, and a significant burden on women and children. To address this critical issue, my organization (Rural Help Initiatives) is proposing to develop a solar-powered borehole system in Pyessa Community. This sustainable solution will provide a reliable source of clean water, improve health outcomes, and enhance the overall quality of life for the people of the community. The solar-powered system will also ensure environmental sustainability and reduce operational costs. We cannot do this alone. I am calling you, my esteemed valued connection, to join hands in making this project a reality. Here’s how you can help: *Spread the Word* : Share this message with your network to raise awareness about the water crisis in Pyessa Community. *Donations/Partnership/Sponsorship* : If you are interested in providing technical, financial, or logistical support, please reach out to us on: info@ruralhelpinitiatives.com or call: +234 8094541159, +234 8138414011. *Volunteer* : We need volunteers with skills in project management, engineering, community engagement, and more. 🚽 World Toilet Day 2024: Toilets – A Place for Peace 🌍 Did you know that over 48 million Nigerians lack access to proper toilets and sanitation facilities? This alarming reality forces many to resort to open defecation, exposing communities to health hazards and environmental pollution. A toilet is more than just a facility; it’s a sanctuary of peace. 🔹 For girls, it means managing their periods with dignity. 🔹 For boys, it’s a space to dream and plan their next big adventure. 🔹 For everyone, it’s a foundation for health, safety, and hygiene. At South Saharan Social Development Organization, we’re committed to addressing sanitation challenges and advocating for inclusive access to safe, dignified toilets for all. Together with our partners, WaterAid Nigeria, USAID Nigeria, & The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are working to create a Nigeria where everyone has access to safe, private, and hygienic toilets. Join us in advocating for sanitation for all by sharing! #WorldToiletDay #SanitationForAll #ToiletsArePeace #EndOpenDefecation
