Youth Spotlight 💡 : Jasmin Throughout our programs, the work we do helps support countless youth experiencing homelessness in Colorado Springs. Igniting a youth’s potential to get to a place of self-sufficiency is our why. Our purpose. And they are at the heart and soul of everything we fight for. There is an infinite amount of stories that can be told from the youth who choose to share them. And we would like to start highlighting them here. Meet Jasmin: Q: Can you start by telling your name and how long you’ve been at The PLACE? A: So I’m Jasmin, I’ve been here for almost four years. I came here when I was 14 and I’m now 17. The PLACE and Outreach in general have been such a help. It’s a good spot to hang out, a spot to eat, get set up on housing. There’s a lot of good stuff. It’s just a really good place to be when you don’t really know how to move forward Q: Can you tell me your favorite memory of The PLACE? A: So one of my favorite memories was when the drop in center was starting off and I started meeting a ton of people. And Eric, one of the therapists who’s making soups, which he still does. He still brings soups and we got to do a bunch of painting. And I remember the conversation. We were all talking about what we’re going to do in the future. And so far we are getting that stuff done still. Q: Can you share a memory that you have of group or of what art means to you? A: There’s a painting here at Drop In with a black canvas. I had actually done that one in group and I was sitting there and I was like upset. And then we got to paint and stuff and I just kind of put my emotion out while painting and then we would talk it over and all that. It’s kind of a good way to step back. And because you can get really stressed when you have all these things, like oh I need to apply for housing and to apply of a job, I need to get my ID. I can get very overwhelming. And then being able to step aside, paint, draw, sketch, whatever you really need. There’s also yarn and stuff.” #YouthEmpowerment #ColoradoSprings #AffordableHousing #COS #YouthVoices

The idea that civil society organizations should be involved in wealth creation is still confusing to many in the civil society sector, particularly in the Caribbean. The idea and practice of community wealth creation is certainly not new. However, the fact that many still believe that civil society organizations should not make profit or create wealth confirms the extent to which we have been brainwashed by colonial/imperial forces and current elites. As the great Bob Marley said in Redemption Song (Bob Marley and the Wailers): "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery None but ourselves can free our minds". The movement in the US continues to grow. https://lnkd.in/dTWA8GJY #justtransition #cooperatives #communityeconomicdevelopment #economicjustice #sustainablesociety #community #socialandsolaridityeconomy

Hi Morgan No we are not Proud of Mayor Lucas. Repealing NEW ORDINANCE TO CODE BOOKS ORDINANCE NO. 230401 Amending Chapter 3, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 3-431, “Setting Goals for Individual Contracts” and enacting in lieu thereof a new section of like number and subject matter regulating the application of numeric MBE/WBE goals on certain projects leased for development or receiving economic development incentives or tax abatement. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 2. Ignoring the letter from The Kcmo Fairness Board Chairman & Fairness Committee regarding Civil Rights violations ? Harrasment of minority contractors ? inadequate reporting from Kcmo CREO department ? No Disparity report for 9 years and more ? 2016 Disparity Report below: Department of I think 1.2 minority [participation] and 2.5 WBE [participation], when there was adequate availability of minority and women contractors to meet the City’s standard kind of goal of 15 [percent] and 7 [percent]. They’re diluting the opportunity for minority and women contractors when it comes through the statutory business development organizations, all of whom have different sets of rules..… There ought to be a uniform code that is incorporated in all the development agreements which people in our community never see.… There’s a disconnect. And I realize they’re trying to change some of that now but the insulting part of it was there was more money spent through statutory agencies last year for contracting activities than there were through City departments.… It’s obviously developer driven. By the time we see it the development agreement has already been executed. Caused lack of capital for Jackson County schools and libraries. Mayor Lucas and Insult to African Americans everywhere?
Grateful to Quinton Lucas for the opportunity to serve my community and for the strong trust we’ve placed in each other since day one. We’ve accomplished a lot the past five years, and I hope we’ve made Kansas City proud. Under the mayor’s leadership, I know our City government will remain bold, caring and creative. How special it’s been to be part of it all. Reid Day, you’re up next! We’re all rooting for you.

Why Is Knowing Our Neighbors A Strategy? One of our three strategies is We Care Neighbors. It is a way to connect neighbors to each other and neighborhoods to one another. It helps us remember that we share this space (this building or block) and that we share this city, town or village. That we live in a shared world and that our relationships to each other create the quality of that lived experience. Here is a story that was recently shared that I think we will all relate to. A couple moved into a new neighborhood at the top of the cul de sac up on the hill. A few weeks go by and they see no one. Not one neighbor. They decide to invite everyone to come over. "Next Saturday, bring a hot plate, our doors are open." Saturday comes and every single person living in that cul de sac - about 15 homes - walks up the hill with a hot dish and meets their neighbors. Many of them didn't know one another. They demonstrated a human truth .... we want to connect. Two weeks later, one of the neighbors down the hill encountered threatening young men at her driveway. Where did she go? Up the street to her new friends' home. She banged on their door at 11:30pm looking for safety and they gave it to her. That is why actively connecting our neighbors and neighborhoods is a strategy. It binds us together in relationship. It allows us to activate the possibility for friendship, and to reach out when we need help. It heals our world by healing our street or our building complex. It is a strategy to heal a city or town block by block. Because a city or town that is really one big neighborhood is more resilient, creative and capable of addressing opportunities and challenges .... together. #WeCare #Neighborhoods #Community #PotLuck

𝔼𝕞𝕡𝕠𝕨𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕆𝕦𝕣 ℂ𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕦𝕟𝕚𝕥𝕪: 𝔸 ℂ𝕒𝕝𝕝 𝕥𝕠 𝔸𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕄𝕖𝕒𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕗𝕦𝕝 ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕘𝕖 Supporting your local community means showing up in meaningful ways. In Boise, 𝗡𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 continues to make a tremendous impact through its efforts, such as 𝗥𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝗨𝗽 𝗕𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 and the 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗯 program. In my time at ACS, the team has come together to help residents rake up fall leaves for those who could use a hand. The labor-intensive teamwork lifts our spirits as we see the leaves pile up and watch kids enjoying themselves by jumping into the leaf piles. It's a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community works together!! Programs like 𝗥𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝗨𝗽 𝗕𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 capture this spirit of cooperation, and it's heartening to witness our efforts' immediate, visible impact. Beyond that, NeighborWorks Boise is also making a difference with their 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗯 initiative, helping solve the housing crunch that affects so many, including our adult children. By connecting homeowners with those in need of housing, they're creating solutions for a problem that touches families across the city. As NeighborWorks Boise states, "𝙒𝙚'𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙤𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧, 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙧𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙙𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨." There are countless ways to lend a hand, from participating in seasonal efforts like Rake-Up Boise to finding more lasting solutions through programs like the HomeShare Hub. Where do you see a gap in your community that you could help fill? Whether it's offering your time, skills, or resources, there's always an opportunity to make an impact. We aim to provide custom, complete, and easy-to-use systems—so you can focus on what matters most. The same philosophy applies when supporting your community: efficient, thoughtful action makes all the difference. #CommunitySupport #Philanthropy #HousingSolutions #JonathanFrank
