𝐀𝐈 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 Here is a very practical examples how AI can 1) reduce the pressure on physicians and 2) help patients. NYU Langone Health has a communication tool build into their electronic health records through which patients can ask their physicians questions, refill prescriptions, and review test results. It's a great communication tool but physicians have recently started experiencing a more than 30 percent annual increase in the number of messages received daily. Some physicians received more than 150 messages (!!) per day. My question: Rather than putting the #AI in the hands of the health system, who likely only has a portion of the record, why don't we put the AI in the hands of the patients instead? An AI-augmented, #patient centered record, able to summarize massive longitudinal records for time-constrained clinicians. That's the dream.
