Happy start of US Antibiotic Awareness week!! We all have a role in ensuring the appropriate use of antibiotics to preserve its effects for future generations. One message we often hear is “Viruses should not be treated with antibiotics.” This may sound obvious but the amount of times it happens in clinical practice is astounishing- we are treating the clinician’s fears that they are missing a diagnosis, rather than the patient themselves. One way to prevent this scenario is to get your patient vaccinated!!! There are so many viral illnesses that are vaccine preventable. Right now is the perfect time to offer your patients the influenza, COVID, and RSV vaccines. Do your part! #USAAW24 #antimicrobialresistance

Infections caused by superbugs are increasing, and there are not enough drugs in development to address the continuing threat of resistance. We need to incentivize the development of critically needed antibiotics and antifungals through the passage of the PASTEUR Act. Infectious Diseases Society of America is making it easy for you to contact your state's government representative to ask them to #PassPASTEUR. Help advance this important policy by making your opinion count with the help of the IDSA tool: https://lnkd.in/gAHTC73P
