Placement woes continue with 60% IIT Gandhinagar students still awaiting offers Around 60 percent of students in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar, are yet to secure jobs in the ongoing placement season 2023-24, According to data revealed total 398 students sat for the current placement process. However, 117 are placed so far, while 46 received pre-placement offers (PPOs). As of May 7, the average salary offered stands at Rs 18.20 lakh per annum (LPA), while the median salary is Rs 14.43 lakh, similar to the last placement season. The MCA program at IIT Roorkee was once considered top-tier, but it was discontinued in 2014. Similarly, NIT Durgapur stopped offering the course in 2019, followed by NIT Calicut and NIT Patna in 2022. NIT Surathkal is also planning to phase out its MCA program by 2025. This decline is alarming. The MCA, once a highly respected program for aspiring tech professionals, is now losing institutional and corporate backing. Despite students investing over ₹5 lakhs, often relying on loans, MCA graduates are finding it increasingly difficult to secure jobs. Even the class of 2021 is still struggling in the job market, while BTech, MTech, and MBA graduates are prioritized by placement cells—an issue seen in my own college as well. The IT sector needs skilled professionals, yet a key program that once supplied them is being dismantled. To revive the MCA’s relevance, we must reassess the curriculum, improve faculty quality, and strengthen placement support. It's time to advocate for the future of MCA students. #SaveMCA, #MCAGraduates, #TechEducation, #HigherEducation, #FutureOfIT, #SkillDevelopment, #JobMarketCrisis, #EducationalReform, #MCAVersusBTech, #PlacementsMatter, #SupportMCAGraduates, #ITCareers

I conjecture the sensationalism is potentially making every one ignore the underlying finer details ( conjecture - as i don't have actual figures ) 1. IIT placements talked about includes MTech ( non dual degree) , pure sciences ,humanities and phd candidates which could be 30-40% of the lot. 2. The btech placements % are far higher in 90%. (Every batch has ppl who find other pursuits that don’t make them ideal candidates) 3. This phenomenon happens every year right from the time I was btech in iitm 2001 - if you split Btech + MTech dual degree placement % using their base and compare it to the rest % taken on that base the structure will come out Here is another data point I saw some report quote that cs iit Bombay graduates are unplaced - to get into CS IIT Bombay B tech or dual degree MTech you have to be in top 100 in the country in JEE Can you tell me one company that will not find these candidates worth a job offer ? doesn't seem reasonable. The hubaloo and glamor of IITs has been their Btech & dual MTech students and they I hypothesise are doing fine. IITs have also expanded base of post graduates in comparison to Btech for good reasons. By taking this half baked news at face value we are tarnishing their good work and taking attention away that India needs to create better opportunities for post graduate engineers and doctorates - won’t happen till our manufacturing becomes more about research and development. Good news is times are changing . 🇮🇳 rising . Dheeraj Singh you did an fantastic job on the suicides piece mebbe this is something to deep dive. I hypothesise that journalists are peddling this because they are being deliberately deceptive or unacceptably incompetent.

This year, a concerning trend emerges as IIT graduates face a harsh reality of dwindling job opportunities and reduced annual packages below ₹10 lakh. With companies scaling back on hiring, colleges witness a shift, reaching out to more firms as recruitment numbers plummet. Professor Suhas Joshi from IIT Indore acknowledges the impact of the global economic slowdown on campus placements, prompting proactive measures like tapping into alumni networks and expanding potential employer pools, including PSUs, to mitigate the challenges faced by the 2024 graduating batch. #IIT #JobMarket #EconomicSlowdown #CampusPlacements #Recruitment #EmploymentTrends #AlumniNetwork #PSU #JobSeekers #GraduateJobs #JobOpportunities #SalaryPackages #HiringChallenges #hindustanherald

The Decline of MCA: A Call to Action IIT Roorkee dropped its MCA program in 2014, and now NIT Surathkal will phase out theirs by 2025. This is part of a troubling trend, with NIT Durgapur, Calicut, and Patna doing the same. Despite the considerable time and financial investment from MCA students, the program is facing dwindling academic support and decreasing industry recognition. Graduates are finding it increasingly difficult to secure jobs—many from the 2021 batch are still searching for employment opportunities. We need change. To meet the IT industry's demand for skilled professionals, MCA programs must improve their curriculum, faculty, and placement support. Let’s #SaveMCA. #MCAGraduates #TechEducation #ITCareers

IIT Roorkee was the best institute for MCA, but they dropped it in 2014. NIT Durgapur discontinued MCA in 2019, followed by NIT Calicut and NIT Patna in 2022. NIT Surathkal will also drop their MCA program in 2025. This trend is deeply concerning. MCA, once a prestigious program for tech enthusiasts, has seen a sharp decline in support from both academic institutions and companies. Despite students investing over ₹5 lakhs and often taking on loans, MCA graduates are facing a tough job market. Even the 2021 batch is still struggling to secure employment. It feels like MCA students are being overlooked in favor of BTech, MTech, and MBA graduates, with little to no priority given by placement cells ( Same Scenario In My College ) The IT industry needs skilled professionals, yet the program that once produced them is being phased out. We need a serious reevaluation of the MCA curriculum, better faculty, and stronger placement support if this program is to regain its value and respect. It’s time to stand up for the future of MCA and its students. #SaveMCA #MCAGraduates #TechEducation #HigherEducation
