We at Neighborhood Hands are very excited to see City of San José fund a new TRUST team! This will ensure the most qualified and relevantly trained crisis responders — behavioral health professionals — are the ones engaging with neighbors during moments of extreme vulnerability. This would not have been possible without the effort of Silicon Valley DeBug, Race Equity and Community Safety, SURJ Santa Clara County, and many others. To all who made it happen, our hat is off to you! Learn more about the TRUST program: https://lnkd.in/ehBkvJA9 Read the full article The Mercury News: https://lnkd.in/eCiqtyZe

Is investing in reentry programs and services is a community issue? Investment from the community in programs and services that support individuals reentering society after being incarcerated is a significant concern for the community. By assisting those in the process of transitioning back into society, communities can reduce the likelihood of re-offending, enhance public safety, and create a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all residents. Take a few moments to read an article by Thrive Communities that discusses this very topic. Bridging the Gap: Addressing the Insufficient Funding and Assistance for Reentry Programs can be found on https://buff.ly/3W1tRdn.

The Center for Justice Innovation is driven by a singular idea: local communities are critical to transforming justice. We believe that the only way to truly create safe and flourishing neighborhoods is with a full-spectrum approach that runs from communities to systems and back again. We call that approach Community Justice. We’ve seen firsthand how courts, community members, service providers, researchers, and everyone in between can do more for their local communities when they work together. Whether it’s in big cities or small towns, communities with a long history of justice reforms or ones that are just getting started, we can build Community Justice with these five key action steps. ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eFJFyHgX

Far too often, those who show up to speak at public meetings when a multi-family housing project or MBTA Communities proposal is on the agenda are older, longtime residents who, frankly, already have a place to live. Often missing from that conversation are the voices of younger adults who, due to the difficulty of finding housing in Greater Boston, have or are considering leaving the state. And often, those younger workers tell us, they’d like to be part of the conversation about expanding housing availability. But don’t know where to start, who to talk to, or when to show up. That’s why our chamber, in partnership with CHAPA is launching an effort to engage young professionals in local housing conversations, starting with our virtual Housing Advocacy Workshop Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. Attendees don’t have to live or work in our chamber's communities to attend. In fact, that’s the whole idea: Municipal leaders need to hear from people who wish they could live and work in our cities and towns. If there’s someone in your orbit that might find this of interest please share this link with them.

We will have eight families this year move into a home they own, not rent. These are first time, often first generation, homeowners. Eight families. Over 20 children. Children who will grow up thinking owning a home is normal, not some pipe dream. Come join us as we move toward our goal of adding 300 engaged home owners in North Chicago to create the tipping point in community revitalization. https://lnkd.in/grGAQBbm
