Reviewing the science on 50 years of conservation: Through 662 studies in 102 countries, we identify knowledge production biases and independence issues in conservation science, which are important as they can uphold existing narratives about who should conserve and how, and serve to suppress an otherwise clear link between Indigenous Peoples' and local communities' leadership & conservation success.
