The General Election... it's pretty much taken over everything at the moment, from tv to radio, the news and social media. Television schedules are all over the place as debates, interviews, party political broadcasts and Question Time specials dominate. It's the topic on everyone's lips, but until this point - young people haven't had much of an opportunity to engage 1-on-1 with political parties, candidates, or to have their voices heard. We just couldn't allow this! Young voices are so important as we plan ahead for our countries future. We rectified this by holding two election special events in our Changemaker Studio spaces in London and Portsmouth, inviting young people to come and meet with politicians from the leading parties in person, engage with them, talk face to face, and ask them the important questions relevant to their lives and futures. Last night was our London event in our Changemaker Studio space at City of Westminster College, and we were blessed to be joined by Helen Baxter for the Liberal Democrats, Georgia Gould for The Labour Party, Vivien Lichtenstein for The Green Party, Angela Michelle Carter-Begbie for Reform UK, Samia Hersi from the Conservative & Unionist party, and Irakli Menabde for the Workers Party of Britain. Our political representatives spoke openly about their policies, and genuinely listened and engaged with the young delegate's questions. What fantastic and memorable events these were, and so important to bring young people into politics, nurture their interests and changemaker skills, and raise awareness that the decisions that are being made now will impact upon their futures. Unloc's Managing Director Hayden Taylor said: "Wonderful to see so many party members and young changemakers turn out for this event, speaking face to face about the issues that matter to them on both sides. We've reached a new era .
