SOME COMPANIES *coughcough* will constantly post about how they need QA professionals but I will see those posts littered with people that, like myself, applied to multiple QA positions for that company and never heard anything back. This feels like a real slap in the face. If it was just me, then I could say that maybe I somehow don't qualify for a QA Tester position but when there are 20+ people that say they did apply to multiple positions as well AND they also have nearly as much experience or more than me and they ALSO didn't hear anything back, I have to say that the company has a seriously lacking recruitment department. We are real people that have been affected by lay-offs. Many of us are having to pick and choose which bills to pay in hopes of being able to land a job so we can finally catch up. If your company does this, shame on you and shame on the recruiters. Stop ignoring tons of applicants for seemingly no reason at all. It's just plain crappy. #rant #videogames #qualityassurance

I had a chat with a QA leader last week, who made a great point around job specs for companies looking to bring in their first QA hire. More often than not, they’ll have the tooling already decided and included in the spec + a list of requirements/techniques that have been predetermined for them - which seems a slightly backwards way of hiring when you're looking to bring in a new skill/perspective to the business. They went on to mention one of the best interviews they had was with a CTO who instead of a spec, gave a list of their problems/challenges and asked what techniques and tools they'd use to help fix them. It gave the candidate confidence they'd have full autonomy in the role and gave the manager a new way of looking at QA. It's a simple idea, but seems pretty effective for CTOs/Dev Managers out there, looking to get the best out of a QA interview/hiring process.

HR and companies need to understand the number of skills required based on the level of experience. Expecting candidates with 2-3 years of work experience to possess skills that typically take much longer to develop (e.g., 5+ years) is unrealistic and often comes across as absurd. Moreover, setting a budget of 60k-70k while demanding 2 years of experience is neither reasonable nor practical. This approach not only undervalues talent but also sends a message that the company isn't serious about attracting or retaining skilled professionals.
