National Emergency Management Agency’s Post

Support operations continue in Vanuatu following the tragic earthquake on 17 December. To date, 686 Australians, permanent residents, and family members have returned home on ten Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) flights, with commercial flights now resuming. The 64-person Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) have now returned to Australia following the critical response period. A second Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT), with 17 members will depart on 23 December to continue humanitarian efforts. The Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office is leading the immediate response, and we’re continuing to work closely with local authorities. Australia is committed to helping our Pacific neighbour through this crisis and stand ready to provide further support as needed.
