There is a lot of emotion and so many conflicting wants and needs when you have decided to downsize/rightsize or move into a different type of community as you age. It's so vital to start thinking about this way before you actually do anything so that you're not making rushed decisions. Having the right professionals by your side to help you figure out your master plan, and keep your voice amongst the many opinions you're bound to get (all well meaning though!). If you're starting to think about what that process will look like for you, let's talk and map out your plan! It's never too early to start planning for the future. #downsize #rightsize #seniorplanning #seniorcommunities #korisellsrva #listingagent #buyersagent

Today, I got the question that is likely on the minds of many. "If a young girl is blind, why is a blind Barbie doll important when she can't see it?" I have a few answers, but know my community will add more. ✅ First, many people are not "completely" blind. They may be legally blind or have some residual vision where they can see shapes or image but not make out details. So, they can enjoy the doll with the sight they have. ✅ Many people who are blind or low vision experience the world through touch. These tactile experiences help them understand the dolls features including the white cane. ✅ One of the most important reasons to have a doll is using one's imagination. A doll that resembles you, or how you experience the world can help with imaginative play and that can be a way for connecting with others. #RepresentationMatters #DisabledAndCapable #InclusionMatters

Segment on dating with disabilities featuring one of my mentors, Dr. Shanna Katz Kattari!
I know I’ve shared a lot recently (top scientist! Being on NPR ), but I have one more win to share. Last summer, I filmed with PBS News Hour for a segment on dating with disabilities, and it just aired! (CN: included discussions of vomiting, meds, pain, ableism). https://lnkd.in/edGpjjuH

The Power of Role Models in Shaping Our Children’s Future! When children look for role models, they start at home with their parents. If they don’t find inspiration there, they’ll seek it elsewhere—TV, cartoons, movies, or even celebrities. From superheroes to actors, children absorb ideas of what they want to be. But if we don't consciously shape their future, they’ll look for someone else to do it. As parents, are we providing the vision and role models our children truly need? The question isn't just about raising children; it’s about guiding them with purpose, with a future in mind. What vision do you have for your child's character, their life, and the person they will become? Start investing in your own growth, so you can become the visionary role model your children deserve. This isn’t just for today—it’s for their entire future. Dispelling Myths and Championing Authentic Allyship for Persons with Disabilities A narrative has been circulating online about superstar, Chris Brown allegedly refunding a fan with a disability for her ticket and meet-and-greet fees, and additionally giving her $10,000. While this story showcases a touching act of generosity, it's important to clarify that it is not accurate. The fan in question has come forward to correct the record and advocate for people with disabilities, emphasizing that while the intentions behind sharing such stories are often good, they can sometimes reflect ableism and performative allyship. In her statement, she expresses appreciation for Chris Brown treating her with the same respect as any other fan, without special treatment due to her disability. She addresses a common ableist misconception—that people with disabilities cannot afford their lifestyles or need charity. Contrary to these assumptions, she works hard to fund her own experiences and is able travel to attend concerts. This situation highlights the need for critical thinking before sharing stories online, recognizing that even well-intentioned shares can perpetuate stereotypes and inadvertently spread misinformation. Let’s strive for authenticity in our allyship and respect the agency and abilities of individuals with disabilities, rather than casting them as subjects of charity. Listen to her own words to understand the full context and why true allyship matters Dr. Jennifer Manson Mitchell #dispellmyths #disabilityawareness #albeism #performativeallyship #disabilityinclusion

If you missed last month's discussion on Creative Visions of Motherhood with The Luupe, Keren Sachs, Kate Winick, Marsha Bernstein, and myself, you can now watch the recording. During this discussion, I shared... 🔸 How taking on a new identity as a mother causes some women to seek creative solutions to continuing to achieve goals aligned with other important identities (e.g., entrepreneur, career woman) that might compete for time and energy. 🔸 How our lives can be enriched by inviting children into our creative process as well as accepting invitations into their creative process. 🔸 The importance of understanding what we need as creative beings and placing boundaries around those creative imperatives in order to thrive. The conversation took so many interesting twists and turns. We discussed the highs, lows, and everything in between as it relates to motherhood as a creative. How do you continue to honor your creativity during times of transition and other life demands? Watch the replay here: https://lnkd.in/eHqAJ_-X
