SEMPER GUMBY! Have you ever heard this term before? There is an old saying in the United States Air Force. Flexibility is the key to air power! I think we have established that as a defining attitude that has allowed us to become the most powerful Air Force on the globe, to date. During my many deployments, TDYs(Business Trips), and Professional Military Education (PME) courses, this was a state of mind. Things change... They always do... How do you approach that change? No need to get wrapped around the heels about change... Accept it... Adapt to it... and Overcome it! We use the term "Semper Gumby" in the military because our environments and missions change rapidly, forcing us to adapt quickly or be left behind. This is a term I have brought with me into my new work environment. When things happen that are out of our control, we can do one of 2 things. Adapt to it and press or whine about it. I choose to adapt and press, Semper Gumby! Let's get it done! https://lnkd.in/dfTPWn8Y (this is a link to a post by the National Military Families Association) I don't have the words to describe the chasm of disconnect between the PR campaign and the reality of what is happening to military families right now. Since the ramp up of GHC shipment volume at the beginning of January we have seen: ·        An explosion of social media complaints from real military families subjected to complete service failures. No one shows up to pack or pick up shipments. Customers don’t know where their shipment is. That kind of failure. ·        An explosion of concern from military members about the reduced reimbursement they get under the GHC. A petition was even created and already has over 40,000 signatures. Members are supposed to be paid what movers are paid. If it’s not enough money for a member to move themselves or hire a mover that says a lot. I posted the petition on LinkedIn a few days ago and I encourage you to sign it. ·        A list of all task orders was inadvertently sent out by the contractor last week. Our analysis of it indicates a missed pick-up rate of almost 30% and a late delivery rate of 40%. ·        https://lnkd.in/dfTPWn8Y (link to news article) ·        https://lnkd.in/dnkvJSTQ (link to news article) ·        https://lnkd.in/d8Cu2CMd (link to news article) ·        The number of short-fuse shipments (awarded with less than five days until pick up) in the legacy program has doubled as GHC shipments with missed pick-ups are pulled back and booked into the current program. These are military families that were told they must move by the DOD and then no one shows up, so we’re handed a customer that is already very frustrated. Despite that we’ve accepted many of these shipments and have been able to successfully arrange for their pack and pick up. Most task orders awarded at the beginning of January wouldn’t require pick up until the middle of the month. That means that there is a wave coming as the shipments that were picked up are scheduled to start delivering over the next week or two. As a result, we’ll begin to see increasing issues surrounding delivery and storage. A trusted advisor used to frequently remind those of us at National of, “The First Rule of Holes” – which is that when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. That’s where we are now. The DOD needs to stop digging and not allow more military families to go into a system that is clearly failing.  Under these circumstances, celebrating record volume is absurd and insulting. I’m asking anyone in the government community to please do what they can to help our military families.

It's Time to Hold HomeSafe Alliance Accountable for Military Families' Relocation Failures It baffles me how HomeSafe Alliance (HNS) continues to celebrate while creating troubling situations for our military families, a matter that demands urgent attention. Currently, 180 military families are grappling with HNS service failures, forced to live in barrack hallways and hotel rooms. HNS offers a mere $86.00 per day in inconvenience claims to these displaced soldiers—a sum that raises eyebrows when considering the reality of finding decent accommodations and the inability to cook. Can anyone honestly secure a hotel room and meals for under $200.00 these days? It is disheartening to witness our military members treated with less regard than illegal immigrants. These brave individuals serve our nation with unwavering commitment, fully aware of the disruptions that may come with their service. Yet, they are met with inadequate support from HNS, which has repeatedly demonstrated incompetence in managing military relocations. This monopolistic approach to military moving services is unacceptable and requires reassessment. The challenges faced by HNS are staggering. They struggle to locate lost household goods and secure reliable moving services, often resorting to unprofessional practices that skirt the contractual agreements of the Government Household Goods (GHC) program. With 12 million undocumented individuals in this country, the implications of such disorganization—potentially allowing access to our service members' homes—are profoundly concerning. At the heart of this crisis lies a troubling relationship established by the U.S. Transportation Command (USTC) with defense contractors. The Department of Defense (DOD) and USTC seem to be undermining relocation benefits while allowing profiteering, further jeopardizing the morale and welfare of military families. It is time to shine a spotlight on this critical issue. We must demand accountability and change from those responsible for supporting our military families during their relocations. I urge everyone to raise awareness about this situation and to sign the petition below advocating for much-needed reforms. Our military families deserve better.
