Excited to share our latest whitepaper where Richard Marsden and I explore how intelligent auction design can transform the sale of sports media rights. The sale of sports media rights is one of the most critical and high-stakes business decisions for professional sports leagues, clubs, and event organizers. These deals not only drive revenue but also shape fan engagement and financial stability across the industry. Yet, with evolving market dynamics—like the rise of streaming platforms and the increasing complexity of bidder valuations—traditional sales methods often fall short. That’s where auctions come in. Whether you're involved in selling or acquiring #sports media rights or are just interested in practical applications of #auctions and #gametheory, I would love to hear your thoughts! #sportsmedia #sportsbiz #linkedinsports

In an article by the Sports Business Journal, they talk about the lack of structure in the college football world from the recent chaos of conference realignment to media rights. I disagree with their idea of completely reshaping the conference landscape and replacing staple conferences like the BIG10 and SEC with a new 72-team format that is divided into twelve conferences because it’s too drastic of a shift from the current system. I agree with their idea that media rights need to be sorted out because the system itself is causing leakages of cash flow everywhere. This is because each conference makes its own media deal for the season, but a separate entity makes the media deals for the postseason and playoff. #CFB #Realignment #Change #Media

Better fundamentals than the men game. Plain and simple.
The WNBA will receive $200 million annually as part of the NBA’s recently approved media rights deals — an annual increase of $140 million. 📈 The league’s current deals (valued at about $60 million) will expire after the 2025 season. The NBA — which owns about 60% of the WNBA — negotiated the W’s new deals that were approved by the NBA’s board of governors Tuesday. (via Forbes)
