Please help us in welcoming Kerri Soukup to our Board of Directors in the role of Marketing Co-Chair! Kerri is a creative leader who drives purpose for brands and people. With 25 years of experience in the advertising industry, she nurtures brands and teams. From supporting women to step into their empowerment to inspiring students to dream bigger, she creates programs that not only energize her, but contribute to the greater good of the community. We asked Kerri: Why did you want to join the Nerdy Girl Success Advisory Board? "I am grateful for the doors graphic design has opened for me—a career that I never knew existed as a young girl growing up in Ellsworth, Kansas. This makes it really important for me to help students of all ages, showing them that their gifts can allow them to find their path forward and inspiring them to use their talent to dream bigger about what they can do." What is something that you nerd out over? "Matcha. It’s a ritual and a reminder to pause." #nerdygirlsuccess #fyp #explorepage #boardofdirectors #changingthelandscapeofleadership

I had the privilege of attending the ADCOLOR 2024 conference in Los Angeles, alongside a fantastic group of colleagues from Microsoft Advertising and Microsoft Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA). The theme, #OFFMUTE, emphasized the urgency of taking bold, unapologetic action to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion—and left me feeling deeply inspired and motivated to turn insights into meaningful impact. Key Takeaways: Silence is not neutral: Our voices can inspire change, challenge systems, and foster true belonging. Staying quiet isn’t an option. Lift as we climb: Equity requires intention—representation is a start, but real progress comes from dismantling barriers to inclusion. You belong in every room, but not every room deserves you: Shifting the narrative on belonging empowers us to own our value unapologetically. Intersectionality matters: Addressing biases like misogynoir ensures every identity is included in our work. Session Highlights: DEI Goes Off Mute: A powerful reminder that DEI is both a moral imperative and a driver of innovation. Creating Growth Through Inclusivity: The Queen Collective proved that inclusive storytelling sparks economic and cultural growth. Beyond Storytelling: Product Influence: Inclusion must extend beyond marketing to product design, making everyone feel safe and seen. This experience reinforced why DEI isn’t optional—it’s essential. It’s about creating spaces where everyone feels they belong, driving authentic representation, and ensuring our work reflects the communities we aim to empower. We have the tools, the voice, and the drive to make a meaningful impact. Remember your voice is tied to someone else's freedom and fundamental rights. Let’s make good noise. Let’s go #OFFMUTE together. #DEI #Leadership #Inclusion #OffMute

We believe that inspiring decision-makers to act starts with a compelling story. Our recent work with The Women’s Project embodies this principle. The Women’s Project plays a critical role as an alternative to incarceration, helping women and gender-expansive individuals remain safely within their communities. However, their previous brand identity didn’t fully reflect the depth and significance of their work. Our team set out to transform their visual and digital presence, ensuring their mission and impact took center stage. We: 🎨 Crafted a vibrant new brand identity, enhancing their existing colors to reflect their energy and purpose. 🌐 Launched a dedicated website that brings their story and mission into sharp focus. 📢 Streamlined calls-to-action and referral pathways, making it easier for defense counsel to connect individuals with vital support services. The result? A bold and cohesive brand that resonates with their audience and makes engagement simpler for all. We’re honored to partner with The Women’s Project in advancing their mission and driving meaningful change. Check out the full case study to learn more about this impactful collaboration! It takes #morethan basketball, barbershops, and barbecues to connect with our community authentically. Reach diverse markets and grow your business. Here are three inclusive communications tips to help you challenge implicit bias and move from monolithic approaches to “more than” solutions, capturing the rich complexities of communities: 💡Host an inclusive content workshop. Bring diverse voices into the room to ensure the campaign resonates on a broader scale. 💡Leverage counterexamples. Challenge assumptions by thinking in opposites. Open up new perspectives. 💡 Apply the "Yes, And" Technique. Push beyond preconceived notions of a community and build on more inclusive ideas. #InclusiveCommunications #DiverseMarkets #InclusiveLeadership #HealthEquity Photo ID: Selected images represent the monolithic portrayal of the Black community and the need for market research for more effective campaigns. The images urge readers to "Go Beyond the Bias" in an attempt to caricature the limiting stereotypical symbolism, including scattered pennies (lower economic status), a traditional swirling barbershop pole with red, white, and blue colors, a basketball, and a barbecue grill. Lucy is in the lower right-hand corner of the image. Her facial expression portrays the bossy stereotype. She is a Black and Puerto Rican leader with brown hair extending slightly past her shoulders. She has a purple sleeveless blouse and heart-shaped earrings. The text reads, "Let's Connect. LinkedIn. Lucy Abreu. Inclusive Communications." (upper right-hand corner). About 1/3 down, the text reads, "Move from monolithic to more than. Reach Diverse Markets. Grow Your Business. Go Beyond The Bias. Lucy Abreu."

Tomorrow, I want to walk through an important shift for anyone who wants do some personal brand storytelling while traveling. Moving from general posts like “Hey, I went here!” →to a “How I made this trip possible” can add value to the audience. This approach helps you add some personality to your otherwise, very buttoned up work brand too. And it’s important because it can help you evolve from a ‘static photo’ to —‘here’s how you could create this opportunity for yourself and your family.’ In tomorrow's newsletter I dive into exactly what I mean. →including how to get sponsorships for your work →Successful outcomes 3 women have already created for their work Pick it up here: 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/gk_MAUrh

As community builders(Brand or solo product makers), we often forget the importance of building trust among our members. It's crucial to give them autonomy to sustain engagement for years and transform them into advocates for your brand. < In the next post, I'll share some examples of how other products in this space reward their communities> Illustration creds: Jun Han Chin.
