What an inspiring webinar with Sophie Bakalar and Stella McCartney yesterday! I wanted to share some highlights and key insights from the conversation. ⤵️ It was truly exciting to hear Stella McCartney open up about her cruelty-free, non-leather, and sustainable brand 🙌🏻 She’s making huge strides in ensuring that fashion becomes more sustainable for future generations. What sets her apart is her unwavering commitment to animals and the planet, making her the only high-end designer to fully embrace these values 👏 In fact, her latest collection was an incredible 96% sustainable - a true testament to her dedication 🍀 During the talk, Stella spoke candidly about the challenges and resistance she’s faced throughout her career. Even at the G7 summit, she highlighted how sustainable fashion needs more support and tax relief-a point that’s often overlooked but so necessary for real change. Stella’s stance on leather is powerful 💼 She refuses to use it because of its ties to animal cruelty, and her brand doesn’t support fur either. What’s even more amazing is her innovation with natural materials—she’s even making knitwear from seaweed! It’s revolutionary and shows just how far sustainable fashion can go 🐾 Knowledge is power, and we need to share these ideas to create lasting impact for future generations. By supporting sustainable fashion, being more conscious of what we buy, and staying curious about the materials we use, we can make a real difference 🌻 Lastly, Stella touched on the important topic of greenwashing, emphasizing how critical it is to stay informed and make genuine, eco-friendly choices. And here’s something exciting—soon, you’ll be able to find used Stella McCartney🙏 pieces right here on Everused!⭐️ #sustainability #fashion #stellamcCartney #crueltyfree #secondhand #everused #fashionbrand #awereness

Key takeaways: 1. Foster a culture of collaboration, not competition, for driving sustainable advances in the fashion industry. 2. Encourage legislation that enforces sustainable practices like digital product passports. 3. Emphasis on transparency, traceability, and the adoption of sustainable materials for the future of fashion manufacturing.
Featured in WhatTheyThink: Kerry Bannigan emphasized the pivotal role of sustainable practices not merely as a trend, but as an essential paradigm shift necessary for the industry’s longevity and ethical alignment. She highlighted how the fashion sector, historically marred by issues related to excessive waste and carbon emissions, must now pivot towards adopting innovative and environmentally friendly technologies. “Sustainability is no longer optional. It’s an urgent imperative,” Bannigan asserted, underscoring the importance of integrating circular economy principles to reduce waste and promote resource efficiency. Furthermore, Bannigan called attention to the critical need for forging stronger collaborations among various stakeholders, including policymakers, manufacturers, and eco-conscious brands. Such alliances are crucial for driving systemic changes and ensuring adherence to stringent environmental regulations. She advocated for a holistic approach that encompasses not only the reduction of negative impacts but also the proactive creation of positive environmental and social outcomes. 📣 As part of my #MBA thesis research, I'm exploring "Post-Consumption Behaviour and Practices in the Fashion Industry Toward Environmental Sustainability." 👗🧥 This study examines not just what happens to our unwanted clothing items after they've served their purpose but also how we can responsibly recycle and manage textile waste. ♻️ However, I've realised that recycling alone isn't enough to address the fashion industry's environmental impact. We need to focus on producing and consuming less to make a significant difference. 🍀 It's crucial for us to become more responsible and conscious consumers, making thoughtful choices about the clothes we buy and how often we buy them. Likewise, those in the manufacturing business must prioritise sustainable practices and reduce production where possible. Being mindful of these choices helps reduce the overall environmental footprint and encourages a more sustainable industry. 🦚 By adopting these practices, we can all contribute to creating a more sustainable future. Let's take these steps to be part of the solution, no matter how small. #mbathesis #iambrunel #fashionindustry #textilewastemanagement #environmentalimpact #sustainability #slowfashion #responsible #postconsumption

In a world where the fashion industry accounts for an estimated 8-10% of global carbon emissions and produces 92 million tonnes of waste annually, it’s time to rethink how we consume and produce clothing. Circular fashion offers a solution, promoting garments that are designed to last, be repaired, and eventually recycled—reducing waste, pollution, and reliance on virgin resources. The shift from the traditional linear economy to a circular model can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry. This is not only about changing the materials we use but creating a mindset that prioritises sustainability and responsibility at every step—from production to post-consumption. Discover how innovative solutions like bio-materials, closed-loop production and legislation can shape the future of fashion and make sustainable choices accessible for all.
