In my latest article, featured in Investment & Pensions Europe (IPE) Magazine's June edition, I argue that #pension #funds should invest more in European #privateequity (PE) and #venturecapital (VC). Despite managing approximately EUR 2.7 trillion in assets, European pension funds' participation in the #startup ecosystem remains limited. In 2023, European pension funds committed EUR 6.5 billion (11%) of new funds raised by PE funds and only EUR 0.6 billion (5%) of new funds raised by VC funds. This represents just 0.4% and 0.02%, respectively, of pension funds' total assets. Even a small increase in the share of assets under management dedicated to PE/VC would transform the ecosystem. The pensions sector can, and should, play a stronger role in #deepening and #integrating European #capitalmarkets by reducing the existing #financing gap for companies at their early stages and supporting higher-risk investments. https://lnkd.in/e7fCSFdd
