Are you sure "It's never gonna happen" or "We don't have the population" or "But the tracks conditions are" or "The trestles need repair" are reasons not to do it? It's the least expensive now than it ever will be, and the corridor is already there and owned collectively by the 14 First Nations and 5 Regional Districts it passes through and is governed in a 50-50 relationship through the Island Corridor Foundation, a non-profit charity. It appears MOTI is starting to see the light of day with his presentation at the AVICC, a municipal conference held last weekend, where he spoke very optimistically about moving forward with the Nations and that everyone was coming to the table.” Everything about the Vancouver Island Railway has been studied to death and it's all very positive, so let's not fool ourselves into thinking we can ignore this strategic asset and let it languish due to the loud voices of the minority that would see its demise. Let's keep the pressure on! Nearly 13,800 people have signed the petition so far, get your ticket to ride by signing on https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr, All Aboard! The Petition to Restore Vancouver Island Rail just reached Twenty Two Thousand Two Hundred Twenty Two (22222) signatures! https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr I started the grass roots petition on July 28th, 2023 to raise Public awareness about the benefits of rail and the very real risk of losing the corridor if the government doesn't fund the track repairs. Remember, The Island Rail Corridor is a community asset owned by the 14 First Nations and 5 Regional Districts who are linked along the line. The Island Corridor Foundation is a non-profit registered charity. This is our last chance to have to have a sustainable, comfortable, accessible, and dignified way to travel on Southern Vancouver Island. I've put together a document called Vancouver Island Rail Project – The Last Opportunity that outlines these benefits and the risks involved with losing it. You can read it online, or download it as a PDF so you can send it to decision makers. https://lnkd.in/d-APhPPD Be sure to answer the BC Government sponsored surveys • https://lnkd.in/gjH6cJNJ (open until Sep 30th) • https://lnkd.in/gVZHPJmp (open until Sep 26th) Pin what you'd like to see next to the railway on a map (CVRD only) https://lnkd.in/gDp-7mbu All Aboard! www.restoreislandrail.com #reconcilation #railway #transit #support #cycling #route #malahat #vancouverisland #britishcolumbia #canada #connection #transportation #disabled #multimodal #cyclists #alternate #railways #support #healthy #communities #climateaction #climate #emergency #health #travel #community #culture

LET'S GET BACK ON TRACK The Island Corridor Foundation, the registered charity non-profit that owns the Vancouver Island Rail Corridor received none of the $18 million to develop a shared vision. Instead, the BC Government sent the money to the Island Corridor Foundation’s primary members, the 5 Regional Districts and 14 First Nations the railway passes through. We can already see the lack of coordination happening in the two very distinctly different surveys put out by the Cowichan Valley Regional District and the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District. • https://lnkd.in/gjH6cJNJ • https://lnkd.in/gVZHPJmp The CVRD has an interactive GIS map set up (https://lnkd.in/gDp-7mbu), but they only allow you to add comments in the section of the railway that goes through the CVRD. Is the ACRD, RDN, CVRD North, and every First Nation going to do the same thing? LET’S DO BETTER We need to have one central organization putting all the pieces together and ensuring what is gathered is useful. What better organization to do that than the Island Corridor Foundation, the owner that has every Regional District and First Nation the line passes through as members. There are nearly 22,100 people that have signed the petition to get back on track. https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr All Aboard! www.restoreislandrail.com #reconcilation #railway #transit #support #cycling #route #malahat #vancouverisland #britishcolumbia #canada #connection #transportation #disabled #multimodal #cyclists #alternate #railways #support #healthy #communities #climateaction #climate #emergency #health #travel #community #culture

Give back for the holidays! Consider giving back to the world for the holidays by donating to PlaneTerra. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness” Mark Twain Check out my fundraising page for Planeterra International Foundation Ltd - https://lnkd.in/gGyiJFuB About Planeterra: Planeterra is the leading community tourism organization working to reduce poverty around the world. Tourism is an $8 trillion global industry, but many local businesses and communities do not benefit from it. There are some forms of tourism where $0 reaches the hands of local people. Planeterra works to break this cycle by supporting and uplifting community tourism. Established in 2003 by Bruce Poon Tip, Planeterra was born with the vision of using tourism to raise money to do good things around the world. Twenty years later, this vision has not only become a reality but has also begun changing how the tourism industry traditionally works, embracing local communities rather than excluding them from tourism and making travel experiences more meaningful and impactful in the process.
