EVENT TODAY, 16:15- 17:30, 5th June @ Bonn, #SB60: Today, the Net Zero Tracker is co-hosting an event alongside CDP, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), Climate Chance and InfluenceMap at Bonn Climate Change Conference, on the role of the private sector plays in ratcheting the ambition and credibility of NDCs, as COP30 fast approaches. Recent reports from InfluenceMap and the Net Zero Tracker finds that, despite the rapid increase in corporate climate commitments, private sector climate targets are lacking in terms of measures of integrity, implementation and advocacy. With the countdown to ‘NDCs 3.0’ underway, countries are upgrading their climate commitments and gearing up to submit new targets by early next year. The private sector must play an integral role in assurinf and implementing ambitious national climate targets. Below is a map of where to find our event at Bonn:

Join our NewClimate expert Sybrig Smit tomorrow (5 June) at the UN Climate Change Conference (SB60) in Bonn ⤵ The Net Zero Tracker is co-hosting an event alongside CDP, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), Climate Chance, InfluenceMap at the Bonn Climate Change Conference, examining the role of the private sector in bolstering ambitious and credible NDCs on the road to #COP30. Indeed, as the countdown to ‘NDCs 3.0’ draws closer, countries are re-evaluating their climate commitments and preparing to submit new targets by early 2025. The private sector must play a pivotal role in both delivering emissions reductions and, in turn, assuring bolder climate commitments from national governments. The latest analysis from InfluenceMap and the Net Zero Tracker finds that, despite the explosion in corporate climate commitments, the private sector is still falling short in their climate commitments across all metrics of integrity, implementation and advocacy. This event will delve into the critical role of companies in contributing to NDCs, and will shed light on the importance of frameworks such as UN's Expert Group’s recommendations, and standardisation bodies such as the ISO - International Organization for Standardization Net Zero Standard. A decline in inclusivity of global climate policymaking is expected following the all-time high of COP28. The latest sign of this is the loss of Regional Climate Weeks, as the UNFCCC is currently underfunded. In my latest op-ed on LiCAS.news, I discuss how the civil society and community delegations are once again put at a disadvantage because of this, and how the sectors can adapt to yet another roadblock to their participation in processes that decide their future. The work continues. #ClimateActionPH "When developed countries, based on their budget allocations, prefer to prepare for potential conflicts instead of peacefully engaging at the negotiating table, when big businesses continue to choose short-term profits over long-term sustainability, civil society must step up even more to be the third pillar that reinforces global climate action until the other two pillars do their parts." https://lnkd.in/gZHgwiYa

The UK is committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050, marking a significant milestone in our fight against climate change. Under the Climate Change Act 2008 (2050 Target Amendment) Order 2019, this legally binding target mandates substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, with any remaining emissions offset through innovative measures such as carbon capture and storage or afforestation. 💡 Introducing the Utility Data Aggregator (UDA): Your key to setting measurable goals and navigating the path to carbon neutrality. Whether you're a sustainability expert or just starting your journey, the UDA is here to support you every step of the way. Because no matter who you are, making a difference for our planet is within reach. 🌳 But first...let's define the three scopes together: 🏃♂️Take the first step by registrating: https://lnkd.in/eUMHjSuE

Understanding the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is a landmark international treaty adopted in 1992, aimed at addressing climate change and its impacts. It sets out a framework for negotiating specific protocols and agreements that tackle greenhouse gas emissions and support global climate resilience. Key objectives of the UNFCCC include: 1. Stabilizing Greenhouse Gas Concentrations: To prevent dangerous interference with the climate system. 2. International Cooperation: Encouraging nations to work together on climate-related challenges. 3. Sustainable Development: Promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability. Through annual Conferences of the Parties (COP), the UNFCCC has facilitated pivotal agreements like the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, which set binding and non-binding targets for reducing emissions. The UNFCCC's work is essential in mobilizing global efforts to mitigate climate change and support adaptation strategies, particularly for vulnerable countries. Understanding and supporting the UNFCCC is crucial for ensuring a sustainable and resilient future for all. #KossiviFabrice Dossa #50postjourney #LinkedIn #UNFCCC #ClimateChange #SustainableDevelopment #GlobalWarming #ClimateAction #ParisAgreement #KyotoProtocol #GreenhouseGases #ClimateResilience #ClimatePolicy #COP26 #EnvironmentalSustainability #ClimateJustice #RenewableEnergy #CarbonFootprint #GlobalClimate #ClimateScience #ClimateLeadership #ClimateGoals #InternationalCooperation
