We are delighted to announce the launch of the inaugural Belgian edition of the The Legal Industry Reviews. LIR is a vibrant forum for thought leadership, collaboration, and innovation providing international lawyers with a platform to share their expertise, express their ideas, and engage in meaningful discussions on the pressing issues shaping our profession. A special acknowledgment goes to Kato Aerts, LIR's Belgian Editorial Director, and Lore Derdeyn, who authored the article "SME Access to Public Procurement in Belgium". Lore highlights that recent reports reveal SMEs in the EU are awarded less than half of the total value of public contracts, with participation declining since 2017. This trend is particularly evident in Belgium, where SMEs account for nearly 99% of all enterprises. In light of this, Belgium has recently adapted its public procurement framework to strengthen SME access, discussing three key changes in her article. 👉 Read the first edition here: https://lnkd.in/eUawpT4C If you have any questions or would like to learn more, feel free to reach out to Kato or Lore! 🤔🌐 Today, FEDEMAC stands as a pivotal organization representing the interests of movers not only across Europe but also beyond its borders. But who laid the foundations for our organisation? Back in 1965, a significant stride was taken towards formalizing FEDEMAC's structure, with the original statutes being agreed upon and signed. At this historic gathering, 25 representatives from Belgium, Germany, France, and the Netherlands came together, symbolizing the initial unity and commitment to mutual support and growth. 🇧🇪🇩🇪🇫🇷🇳🇱 Despite Luxembourg's absence due to its small size and the lack of a national association, there was hope for their future involvement. Italy, eager yet constrained by the absence of a movers' association, could not sign the statutes but remained committed to establishing one. 🇱🇺🇮🇹 🤝 With Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands as the founding pillars, FEDEMAC embarked on its journey. The establishment of the first Board and working Commissions marked a new era of cooperation, laying the groundwork for a unified front of movers across Europe, aiming for a future of collaborative success. #FEDEMAC #FoundingMembers #EuropeanMovers

A recent agreement between ARIPO and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), which provides for a bilateral PPH program whereby an applicant can request accelerated examination of an application in ARIPO or CNIPA (based on a corresponding claim set that has been accepted by CNIPA or ARIPO) is an interesting development. It is worthwhile to note that the Harare Protocol already provides for expedited/accelerated examination of an application.
