Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon discussed the possibility of a new courthouse, with a feasibility study expected in the spring. No Addresses and High Heels Allowed? The picturesque hamlet of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California has some unique regulations and characteristics. The city has no streetlights or parking meters, and traditionally has not allowed residents to wear high heels without a permit to reduce the risk of tripping on the town’s irregular pavement. This quirky law was introduced in 1963 by the city attorney to protect the town from potential lawsuits due to accidents caused by the uneven surfaces. Additionally, Carmel does not have street addresses. Instead, residents typically describe the location of their homes by the nearest cross streets or landmarks. Consequently, residents have had to pick up their mail at the local post office. There has been a lot of back and forth about this due to safety concerns. Yes, the City of Poughkeepsie Council members OPTED IN with an unanimous VOTE to adopt the Emergency Tenant Protection Act (that will apply to buildings constructed before 1974 that contain 6 or more units). What’s next you maybe asking, authorizing the creation of a Rent Guidelines Board that will set yearly maximum allowable rent adjustments on units protected by the state law.
