🍅 La Tomatina: Takeaways for event planners 📔 🍅 The festival began in 1945 as a spontaneous food fight, and since then is held annually in Buñol on the last Wednesday of August. Cut to the present, the festival is a prime example of how great planning can transform a local tradition into a world-renowned event. But what can we learn from it? 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 In a town of just 9,000, effective crowd control is crucial for over 20,000 attendees. Organizers work with local authorities to manage crowds. 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 The festival uses 150,000 tomatoes (over 40 metric tons). Planners manage the supply chain and ensure efficient cleanup, using fire trucks to wash streets afterward. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Strategic marketing has turned La Tomatina into a global event, with tickets now required to control attendance. Local businesses benefit from the influx, and community volunteers play a vital role in the event's success. There are some great insights into how the festival manages sustainability. Let us know in the comments if you wish to know more. #LaTomatina #EventsOfTheWorld #EventProfs

Thought for the Day Christmas parties are a good idea. Christmas parties aren’t just fun - they’re necessary. But most people underestimate their true value. How to make the most of your next holiday gathering: • Strengthen your network. A shared laugh over eggnog can build connections emails never will. • Take a break. We all need a pause from relentless deadlines and endless headlines. • Celebrate progress. The year’s been tough - recognize how far you’ve come with your peers. Socializing isn’t frivolous. It’s fuel for resilience, connection, and creativity. 🎄 Enjoy the festivities. Recharge your soul. Return ready to thrive. Yet another great Christmas lunch from the Luxembourg British Chamber of Commerce. Thanks to everyone involved in the arrangements and sponsorship. I am sure there will be plenty of further photos - but here is one to be getting on with. This type of event is so needed today. We need a respite from the darker sides of the news. So enjoy your Christmas functions and realise how important it is for us,as social animals, to socialise. Agree? Of Forgiveness, Community Gatherings, and Celebrations: Their Relevance to the Corporate World Last weekend, we concluded the 8-day Jain festival Paryushan, and commenced the 10-day festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam, marking seasons of forgiveness, community, and celebration. Paryushan doesn’t have a greeting like "Happy Paryushan." Instead, we say "Michchami Dukkadam," seeking forgiveness for any hurt caused in the past year. The festival has elements of full or partial fasting and community bonding. Similarly, Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam foster unity and gratitude. These festivals highlight the core values that are equally significant for personal life as well as corporate world. In our fast-paced, often virtual work environments, the corporate 'community / team' gatherings hold transformative potential. Forgiveness is not about others but about clearing your own mental space, letting go of grudges that can poison professional relationships. Forgive, but don't forget. Remember past grievances to shape healthier interactions moving forward (and not to get back at them). Community gatherings like those during Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam can reignite our sense of connection, which has been diluted in the era of remote work. Organizations advocating in-person interactions understand that physical presence fosters a team spirit that virtual meetings cannot replicate. In the spirit of these festivals, bring forgiveness and team interactions into our professional work lives, not just for peace of mind but for effective and joyful collaborations. Embrace work-life integration where personal and professional boundaries blend seamlessly, enhancing each aspect of our lives. Happy Onam ! Michchami Dukkadam ! Happy Ganesh Chaturthi ! Have Fun, Be Happy ! Happy YOU ! #LeadershipDevelopment #GrowthMindset #CorporateCulture #TeamBuilding #CentennialJourney

Morning ☕️ As we head towards the end of the year and start to think about festive celebrations it’s important we consider how inclusive we’re being. ✅Let’s be mindful of our colleagues who don’t drink alcohol, let’s not centre the period around going for drinks/have parties where the only soft drink option is water. ✅Consider your employees who don’t celebrate Christmas. Does the party theme have to be about Father Christmas? ✅Don’t assume everyone loves Christmas, or the festive holidays, for some it’s a really challenging time. ✅Consider a budget, whilst secret Santa is fun for some, for others it reinforces financial stress. ✅Don’t exclude anyone, ensure invites go out to everyone even if you think they may not attend. ✅If you’re on the planning committee for a party/celebration, look at the group to see how diverse it is. If everyone looks like you, maybe consider bringing other voices on board. ✨Inclusion is in everything we do, let’s not forget that in the run up to the holidays. #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #Festivities #ChristmasSeason

"Ah, you're an event leader? So, you organize weddings, right?" If I had a dime for every time I heard this, I'd probably have my castle by now (and a big one!). I am sure so many of you have had the same experience. Yet, this common misconception begs a deeper question. Does it unveil a broader issue within our industry? Is there a valuable lesson to be learned? It dawned on me that the event industry remains somewhat mysterious to those outside its vibrant community. The profound impact and significance of events are often and somewhat underestimated or misunderstood. Are we, as event professionals, falling short in advocating and showcasing the true essence of our industry? Is it time for us to amplify our voices, share our stories, and illuminate the transformative power of events? We are not just wedding organizers; we are architects of experiences, orchestrators of connection, and catalysts for change. The impact of a well-executed event goes far beyond what meets the eye. The event industry is a dynamic force that propels businesses, sparks innovation, and brings communities together. Let’s shout these last sentences from the rooftops! 😊 How can we better communicate the broader significance of what we do? Let's open the floor for discussion and change the narrative. 🚀✨ #EventIndustry #Advocacy #EventProfs #IndustryPerceptions

November always feels like a transitional month—Halloween’s just passed, but it’s not quite Christmas…or is it? Some of us (ahem, me! 🙋♀️) already have our presents wrapped! 🎁 While the festive season is creeping closer, this month has been all about incredible projects, meaningful teamwork, and planning for what’s ahead. ⭐ ada Lovelace Festival: We started the month in Ludwigsburg, where Hannah, Laura, and Chris brought the theme of “New Utopias” to life. Months of preparation went into crafting a stunning visual stage concept, event branding, and a smooth technical production. Watching the event unfold perfectly on-site was a true highlight! ⭐ SZ-Wirtschaftsgipfel: Next, we traveled to Berlin to support Süddeutsche Zeitung with their annual economic summit. Toumaj Aminian led on-site efforts, ensuring seamless video animations, image recordings, and the complete event recording. With high-profile guests like business leaders and politicians, attention to detail was everything—and we delivered! ⭐ Ukraine-Konferenz NRW: Back in Cologne, the Ukraine Conference for the State Government of NRW took place at the Flora. Laura and Lara managed the production brilliantly, while much of our team visited to support on-site. Teamwork is key to the success of every event. So that’s why we also like to gather and celebrate together. And this is exactly what we did this month. Everyone gathered for a cozy team afternoon at the Christmas market in Cologne. These moments of connection are invaluable, even though this one was bittersweet as we said goodbye to Frederic and Chris. Farewell, but never goodbye—you’ll always be part of the PIRATEx crew. ❤️ Behind the scenes, we’ve also been busy preparing for 2025: 👉 Redesigning our offers and service portfolio 👉 Brainstorming exciting content for next year (hint, hint 👀) Anyway, it's time to (officially) start listening to our Christmas playlists and start December in the right mood! 🎄 Cheers, Clélia #behindthescenes #team #teamwork #events #highlights #eventproduction #nrw #koln #eventagentur ada
