A 12-week ballot period for the Draft International Standard (DIS) ISO/DIS 9706 is commencing. The draft was developed under Technical Committee 46, Subcommittee 10 (TC 46 SC 10) on Information and Documentation. This standard represents a collaborative effort to establish comprehensive guidelines for the longevity and durability of paper used for documents, aligning with the overarching goal of effective information and documentation management. ISO/DIS 9706 delineates specific requirements for paper intended for documents, emphasizing critical factors essential for long-term preservation. Through meticulous parameters including tear resistance, neutralization of acid action, control of oxidized materials, and pH values, this standard ensures that documents printed on compliant paper endure the test of time. By setting minimum standards for permanence and quality, ISO/DIS 9706 provides a robust framework applicable to a wide array of unprinted papers, excluding boards, thus safeguarding the integrity of archival materials, official records, and cultural artifacts for future generations. Stakeholders, experts, and interested parties are encouraged to engage in the balloting process, offering valuable insights to refine ISO/DIS 9706. Your participation is integral to shaping the final version of the standard, enhancing its effectiveness and relevance across diverse contexts. https://lnkd.in/eUfie7kG
