Air cargo is amidst a “record peak season” in a year that saw nine months of double-digit year-on year growth, per International Air Transport Association (IATA) economist Ghislaine Lang. The post-COVID bounce-back in air cargo demand can be attributed in part to the continued expansion of e-commerce as well as responses to global disruptions in maritime shipping. Next year projects to be another year of growth, albeit at a slower pace than 2024, which came on the back of a weak market. One indication of expanded options for air cargo is Korean Airlines' recently finalized acquisition of Asiana Airlines. The expanded network, with diversified flight schedules, additional capacity and new destinations, will provide more routes for moving freight within Asia. Canaan Group has air freight specialists ready to help you adapt your shipping process to better meet market demands and take advantage of new opportunities. It appears that the #USA might encounter #congestion in cargo movements at #airports, resembling the situation in #Singapore where #ports are facing #congestion. This is a result of changes in the dynamics of longer-haul container movements due to disruptions at the #Red Sea. Singapore is taking proactive measures by reopening its old and closed terminal, #Keppel Terminal, to address the increased demand. To learn more about Singapore's efforts to combat congestion and reactivating mothballed berths, check out the reference: [Seatrade Maritime](https://lnkd.in/gzjwcW3Y). Likewise, the USA is experiencing congestion in aviation cargo movements due to extensive inspections stemming from the trade war between the USA and China. Recent events, such as the discovery of drug manufacturing equipment in shipments from China and Mexico, have further exacerbated the situation. For additional insights on the challenges faced by the USA in cargo movements and the impacts of stringent inspections, refer to the following link: [The Loadstar](https://lnkd.in/gRKwy3aF). ✈️ Bottlenecks begin to form in Asia as air peak season approaches 📌 On the eve of the peak airfreight season, most Asian gateways are running without problems, but some bottlenecks have begun to appear, particularly out of South-east Asia and the Philippines. 📌 And, according to the latest Dimerco Asia Pacific Freight Report, despite sinking volumes, exporters using container lines are also facing challenges as a result of a sharp rise in blank sailings. 📌 With a few exceptions, airfreight capacity to Europe out of most Asia Pacific gateways is tight, meaning exporters need to arrange lift in advance. With backlogs of 1-2 days, Singapore’s Changi Airport stands out as the tightest gateway this cargo. 📌 Hong Kong and Taiwan are the only two gateways where airfreight capacity is adequate for demand to the US, but at most others it is already tight. Singapore and Vietnam’s two main gateways are already experiencing congestion, while Dimerco rates the situation in the Philippines as critical, with bookings rejected and alternative routings likely to be needed.
