SPACEMAP, a South Korean space technology company led by Dr. Douglas Deok-Soo Kim, has developed transformative space collision prevention methods. In a landscape where satellites navigate increasingly crowded orbits, the risk of collisions becomes a pressing concern. Despite the complexities posed by the surge in space catalog size, SpaceMap tackles these challenges by providing innovative solutions for real-time conjunction assessment and near real-time collision avoidance. At the core of SpaceMap’s innovative solution lies the Voronoi diagram, renowned for its efficiency in spatiotemporal reasoning across both 2D and 3D spaces. The technology utilizes a dynamic Voronoi diagram, enabling real-time definition of neighborhoods for moving points, such as satellites. Investments in the company, including foundational support from Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) since 2016, has exceeded $10 million. Collaborating with Amazon Web Services and the US Space Force, the technology has reached Readiness Level 7. It involves the development of technologies, tools, and methods to understand and interact with the space environment, as well as to create applications and innovations that benefit humanity both on Earth and beyond. 

Space is no longer the quiet, sparsely populated domain it once was decades ago. Today, certain “orbital highways” have become quite congested and #Space is becoming increasingly contested. Between active satellites, dead satellites, rocket bodies, and debris fragments, there are over 40k trackable objects orbiting earth today (https://rebrand.ly/9933d3). And those numbers are going to rapidly proliferate in the coming years! With the proliferation of space vehicles and objects, the need for actionable Space Domain Awareness (SDA) is essential for ensuring the safety and sustainability of our growing space infrastructure and national defense. Space domain awareness is the ability to understand space activities, including the intentions, capabilities, and behaviors of resident space objects (RSOs) and encompasses: * Ability to detect and track RSOs in multiple orbit regimes using a variety of sensor phenomenologies * Identifying RSOs, determining their capabilities and characterizing their on-orbit activity * Using the above information to understand the intent and threats posed by those RSOs to the space assets of the U.S. and our allied partners Integrated, Intelligent Space Domain Awareness-Space Traffic Management (i2S2) is #BoozAllen’s AI/ML prototype to demonstrate concepts for integrating/correlating SDA data from disparate sources/types with networked Large Language Models (LLMs), with a focus on supporting Space Battle Management. This empowers decision-makers to make informed choices, safeguard critical assets, and ensure #nationalsecurity. There are the five main accelerator features of i2S2: * Multi-Phenomenology Data Integration – Pulls data from government and commercial sensors and sources. * Propagation Modeling – Projects where space vehicles are going to be in the future that incorporate near real-time drag predictions. * Assessment and Alert – A continuous low-latency #spaceawareness assessment and alert service. * #AI / #ML Predictive Analytics – Incorporates LLMs, a generative pretrained transformer (GPT) engine, for predictive analytics. * Pattern of Life and Courses of Action – Assesses historical operations of each spacecraft to flag maneuvers related to orbit modification and spacecraft activity using ML algorithms. Free-Flying Robots in Space: How Real-Life Droids Test New Tech. by Clarence Oxford - Los Angeles CA (SPX) Navigating the great unknown of space requires innovative tools, like the Multi-Resolution Scanner (MRS), a novel 3D mapping technology developed under the auspices of the International Space Station (ISS) National Laboratory. This technology leverages NASA's robotic Astrobee system to generate high-resolution maps of remote environments, aiding not only space exploration but also terrestrial industries. A joint effort by Boeing and CSIRO, the Australian scientific research agency, the project underscores the vital role of international cooperation in advancing space technology. Historically, CSIRO has played a significant role in space exploration, having supported the Apollo 11 mission by receiving and broadcasting lunar television signals through its Parkes radio telescope. The MRS aims to produce detailed 3D maps of environments such as the ISS or lunar and Martian terrains. "We will use NASA's free-flying Astrobee robots to test MRS, which will allow us to create 3D maps of the space station's Kibo module," said Marc Elmouttie, research group leader at CSIRO. The system combines multiple sensors to enhance data accuracy and resolution, crucial for the robot's movement and data collection in space. This technology also incorporates advanced photogrammetry and 3D simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology, enabling autonomous navigation and environment mapping. The first tests are conducted in the Kibo module to compare the technology's performance in microgravity against terrestrial results. Elmouttie and his team aim to validate the effectiveness of their mapping software in space, initially launched aboard a SpaceX resupply mission to the ISS. If successful, MRS could be extended to other space station modules and potentially used in future robotic-led missions, such as NASA's planned lunar Gateway. This could facilitate autonomous operations in space when human presence is limited, enhancing the capability and safety of both crewed and robotic space missions.
