RESCHEDULE NOTICE: The NERDIC Quarterly Ecosystem Meeting scheduled to be held in Vermont on Friday 13 September 2024 is now being rescheduled to later on in the year. The State of Vermont is dealing with urgent response needs due to the recent floods in the State, which has put additional demands on the local staff and contributed to a delay in finalization of the contract with OLDCC (Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation). A new date will be provided shortly, but will likely be November 2024.

The U.S. Department of the Interior today announced funding is available to help small emergency response agencies quickly expand their wildfire response capacity. Local governments serving areas with a population of 50,000 or less are invited to apply for grants of $10,000 to $500,000. The funding can be used to purchase slip-on tanker units to quickly convert vehicles to be operated as wildland fire engines. A total of $20 million is available during this second round of funding. ⏰ Apply by February 26: https://lnkd.in/gMYSJ6gP ➡️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gGK9VrcF #AllHandsAllLands #StrongerTogether #ItTakesAllOfUs 📸 Photo by Baker County Emergency Management Program

The Gulf of Mexico just had it's first named storm of the season, and it's barely hurricane season. One of the many things I love about what we do at the Gulf of Mexico Alliance is act as a connector, not just for traditional environmental issues like water quality or marine debris. We look at how people are connected and impacted by Gulf issues, and we connect them with the right resources. Proud of what we do. Are you prepared for storm season? https://lnkd.in/ej_59B7Z
What we do: Improve resilience in coastal communities 😁 We know when communities prepare for short and long-term hazard risks, they are better able to recover from disasters. Which is why we recently supported a workshop for community members in Port Sulphur, Louisiana, connecting them with preparedness agencies and resources. Our project partners Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management hosted the meeting. Participants included Ironton Reconstruction and Development, Second Harvest, Plaquemines Parish Government staff, Louisiana Department of Insurance, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness, and FEMA. This project is funded by Gulf Star partner Freeport-McMoRan. . . . #GoodfortheGulf #GulfofMexico #stormprep #coastalresilience https://lnkd.in/eu_5EmS3

One of the things I write about a lot is the problem of misinformation and conspiracy theories online. These have been out in full force following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This excellent post (not by me) debunks the nonsense circulating out there about FEMA and the government response. Please read and share! https://lnkd.in/efJvvwd4
