New Forest National Park Authority’s Post

We’re revisiting the past on day 15 of our #NewForestChristmasCountdown to look back at the more than 3,000 archaeological sites identified in the National Park by archaeologists and volunteers. LiDAR is just one of the tools used by teams to lead them to discoveries on the ground, including Bronze Age burial mounds, an Iron Age fort, and a medieval field system. The New Forest was the first national park in the country to have its landscape fully surveyed using the technology, which can penetrate tree cover and incorporates high-tech imagery using lasers beamed back from aircraft.
