I recently experienced this myself when I moved to a different locality and found issues with the merchandising at my favorite fashion retail outlet. The assortment and visual merchandising were not the same as what I was used to. When it comes to branding and retailing, consistency is key. Customers come for the experience and merchandise, and if that's not consistent, the competition is ready to capture the confused customer. #retail #ecommerce #branding

Is visual merchandising an innate skill? The answer is yes and no, according to my experience. An intuitive understanding of color, balance, and composition is a must, but with the right mentor, anyone can develop their visual merchandising skills over time. I have had the opportunity to work with capable newcomers, nurturing their talent and helping elevate their visual merchandising careers. Here, I came across two groups of people who wanted to pursue a career in visual merchandising. One group had natural abilities and pure talent that needed direction and discipline, while the other had a strong sense of determination but needed training on the foundations. And guess what? I have seen people succeed in VM from both of these groups! So, if visual merchandising interests you but you feel like you don't have the natural skill set for it, don't let that deter you. Finding the right mentor is key. Mainly because it’s been used as a phrase to undermine the impact Visual Merchandising can have on a business if implemented properly. Visual Merchandising is all about creating connection through storytelling. It’s a privilege to be part of this craft. WHAT VISUAL MERCHANDISING ACTUALLY INVOLVES: - Taking a company vision and turning it into a tangible customer journey experience that connects. - It’s the psychology of leading a consumer through a space. Understanding how touch points when compounded lead to buying behaviour.  - Finding the delicate balance between Art and Commerce when visual merchandising spaces. - It’s about managing feedback and understanding when to pivot, or hold strong to your vision.  - Understanding that when the range is booked, the only way of influencing sales is changes to pricing or visual merchandising. Showing agility around VM Strategy is essential to the financial success of a business. And yes there is an important window component to this that shouldn’t be undermined. It’s ‘Where the magic happens’. Retailers can sell more products simply by showcasing outstanding visual merchandising BUT Make sure the stores actually has the product to sell 👀 See this image At first glance I thought BRILLIANT a headpiece to serve the local consumer 👏🏼 But on closer inspection It was the top (already on mannequin) styled as a headpiece 🙁 Ok ok Props to the vm for being creative But 2 customers shopping together wanted to buy the headpiece only to be told it’s a top 😳 I mean…for such a global brand this is very disappointing One of them said “that’s so misleading” and the other rolled their eyes & put the skirt back on the rail ‼️ And they’re right to be annoyed 👇🏼 What seemed to be an innocent attempt to include customers Ended up in excluding them ❌ And that’s the last thing brands need when fighting for growth What do you think about this? #sales #retailing #customerexperience
