In October 2023, Emterra Group and Region of Peel had the great pleasure of launching the first electric refuse collection vehicle in #Ontario. The purchase of the first Mack LR Electric Class 8 refuse vehicle in Ontario marks the first battery-electric vehicle in Emterra's fleet. The achievement of expediting the transition to clean technology is a significant one. Emterra and Peel Region made the industry-leading decision to help the waste industry advance into renewable energy by enlisting a third-party research firm to collect, consolidate, and share the data collected throughout the EV pilot. This information will be used to develop EV expansion plans for waste collection fleets, including charging requirements. The outcomes of the project will add insights into the environmental, human health, operational, social, and economic aspects of the electrification of waste collection and promote sustainable transportation practices. The goals of the EV Truck are as follows: ✅ Progress towards zero emission goals, in support of the Region’s Climate Change Master Plan, 2015-2035 Strategic Plan. ✅ Progress towards emission reduction goals, in support of Emterra’s sustainability goal of demonstrating environmental leadership in everything it does. ✅ Determine the best equipment and charging infrastructure technology for the solid waste collection application by testing various OEM equipment and charging infrastructure design and analyzing operational performance data. ✅ Prepare, optimize, and inform future larger-scale electrification of the Region’s fleet and Emterra’s fleet. #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #ElectricVehicles #WasteManagement #EnvironmentalLeadership #RenewableEnergy #GreenTechnology #ClimateAction #ZeroEmissions #FleetElectrification #SustainableTransportation #EVRevolution

Solar PV panel recycling is still in its infancy. Many of the panels installed historically were not designed for easy disassembly and recycling, not to mention the low relative volumes of panels being disposed of today from decades old installations, modern damaged panels, or more rarely modern decommissioned installations. This pales on comparison to the volumes we will be dealing with in the future however, as deployment globally seems to be growing exponentially, and there is still little consideration for design for dismantling. So we will have to Innovate new methods and processes to deal with existing and forthcoming waste streams. Hopefully this will include embedded processes and funding at the point of sale, rather than throwing the problem 20-30 years into the future.
