In 2019, then Chief of Air Force AIRMSHL Leo Davies highlighted the objective of the Royal Australian Air Force's new AIR5428 Pilot Training System was largely "to induct more candidates, progress them through their training at a faster and to a higher standard than before." A challenging task given the magnitude of changes in moving from a basic / advanced (CT-4 / PC-9) platform to a through-course PC-21; from halving the combined training fleet of nearly 100 aircraft to 49 PC-21s; to introducing Flight Training Devices & Simulators, and blended learning; to generating, testing, and adjusting a new curriculum; and to moving from a contracted training model at Tamworth, to service instructors and a new partner consortium in TEAM 21, at RAAF Base East Sale. All while introducing a fifth-generation fighter, and a host of other platforms and upgrades, under increasing geopolitical tensions. At a recent Williams Foundation seminar, Air Commander Australia AVM Glen Braz discussed combat mass in terms of layers: technology, human, operational, and organisational. Regarding the human layer, ACAUST highlighted that the Pilot Training System is now delivering against its intended capability, and that Air Force are executing their Raise-Train-Sustain mandate across the entire workforce. While recent announcements about east and west coast intermediate pilot training milestones alluded to a training capacity improvement, AVM Braz's context is welcome confirmation. 🇳🇱👩✈️🙌 Embraer and Rheinmetall will deliver a C-390 Millennium training suite for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The deal builds on Amsterdam’s July 2024 program to procure five C-390 transport aircraft to replace the air force’s C-130H Hercules in service since the 1990s. The package incorporates Embraer’s Full Flight Simulator, Rheinmetall’s Cargo Handling Station Trainer, and a Computer Based Trainer developed by Portuguese company ETI - Simulation and Engineering Solutions. I lost count. How many air forces have selected #f35 to transform their militaries to possess #5thGen capability? The list grows and grows and speaks volumes of the #lethality, #effectiveness and #survivability of the F-35. For Republic of Singapore Air Force, the combination of F-35A and Bs brings a powerful and unique mix and range of employment options. For the rest of the air force, the F-15SG and F-16 fleets just became significantly more survivable with the F-35's as their quarterbacks. Embraer and Saab have been working as partners since 2014, when the Brazilian Government signed the contract to supply the Brazilian Air Force with 36 Gripen aircraft, which included not only the aircraft, but also logistical support, support systems, simulators, training, and development. With the MOU signed in 2023, both companies reaffirmed their collaboration, now including the promotion of the C-390 Millennium as the preferred solution to meet the Swedish Air Force tactical air transport requirements. ***NEW ITEM 5 of 8*** F4 Phantom "QRA- Quick, Reaction, Alert" RAF Pilots and engineers on QRA duty are at immediate readiness twenty-four hours a day. They are fully dressed in the Crew Ready Room, which are next to the hangars, a hardened aircraft shelter known informally as Q-sheds, which houses the interceptor aircraft. Between the 1970s to early 1990s, the Phantom protected the airspace surrounding the UK. This Interceptor was replaced by the Tornado F3. Saudi Arabia officially received its F.53 Lightnings in December 1967, although the aircraft remained at Warton while trials and development continued. The first Saudi Lightnings to depart Warton were four T.55s, delivered in early 1968 to the RAF 226 Operational Conversion Unit at Coltishall, where they were used to train Saudi aircrew for the next 18 months.
