New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3 Charitable Trust (NZFWC 12.3 Trust)’s Post

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is a key solution to keeping food and other organic waste out of landfill here which we believe this should be a key focus for all businesses in Aotearoa. Jessica Broun and Sophie Wolland from Love Food Hate Waste NZ got a first-hand look at the EcoGas' Reparoa (AD) plant late last week. Critically, EcoGas offers the opportunity to move food waste up the food recovery hierarchy by keeping it out of landfill while producing potentially valuable byproducts. Investment in this kind of infrastructure is particularly critical as climate-related disclosure requirements increase for businesses and there is a need for accessible solutions to unavoidable waste. ♻ Thanks for having us Andrew Bedford and team, it was both enlightening and inspiring (and surprisingly not smelly)! #foodwastesolution #anaerobicdigestion

What valuable by-products? You mean turning organic matter into methane to be burned as another GHG? Or sludge full of water soluble nitrates that burn the carbon out of our soils when applied to farmland?
