We were delighted to welcome Emma Foody, MP for Cramlington and Killingworth, to Newcastle Airport. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Airport's growth and the significant role we play in delivering vital connectivity for the North East region. During the visit, we shared updates on the strong progress we are making towards becoming Net Zero by 2035. We also discussed the major investments we are making at the Airport this winter, including a £17 million project to resurface our runway.

🚨 Heathrow’s Third Runway: Game-Changer or Controversy? 🚨 The long-debated third runway at Heathrow Airport has been one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects in recent years. Supporters argue it’s essential for maintaining the UK’s status as a global aviation hub, while critics cite environmental concerns and community impact. ✈️ Why It Matters: Increased airport capacity to handle rising passenger and cargo demand Boost to the UK economy and global trade connectivity Potential for new jobs and investment 🌍 The Challenges: Environmental concerns: Increased emissions and noise pollution Local opposition: Impact on communities near Heathrow Cost and timeline uncertainties #Heathrow #Cargo #Freight #Freightforwarding #Aviation #Infrastructure #Sustainability #UKEconomy

Heathrow's third runway is once again taking centre stage for #aviation #infrastructure in the #UK. An announcement by Rt Hon Rachel Reeves is due today and the debate spans two main opposing camps - the #economic benefit, and the #environmental considerations (whether they be climate change, noise, or impact to local communities). Typically I am concerned about the impacts to #sustainable aviation, but buoyed by the phenomenal progress Heathrow is making on the use of #SAF above the 2% requirement of the SAF mandate, I also see the positives. One should reasonably expect that should this project be given the go-ahead, it does so with #sustainability strings attached. Ultimately if the government's central agenda item here is for investment and economic growth, then why not eek out one project with multiple investment and economic opportunities, especially if they also help address aviation's impact to the climate. Alternatives also include additional runways at London Gatwick or London Luton Airport - if they were to be announced as alternatives for another runway, then the impact to the planet/climate change still exists. More flying means humanity ought to be advancing the sustainability agenda more than ever. All in all, an interesting topic of debate and one with many synergies to the type of solution CirculAIRity is presenting. Lets see!

Yesterday was a great day at the UK Airport Infrastructure Forum, featuring insightful presentations from our speakers and engaging conversations with our attendees. Key themes include: Unlocking greater capacity – Airports revealed their expansion plans as passenger demand exceeds pre-pandemic numbers. Luton Rising is expecting a decision on their planning application to extend their terminal infrastructure on 4 October, while Leeds Bradford Airport aims to carry out a £100m development plan with phase 1 delivered in May 2025 and Phase 2 in Mid-2026. Reducing carbon emissions during development – London Gatwick shared how they are improving sustainability while bringing the existing Northern Runway into routine use. Mark Edwards, Head of Sustainability, outlined the steps included in their £250m decarbonisation programme, he is confident that Gatwick Airport will achieve Net Zero for GHG emissions by 2030. Leveraging current infrastructure – Ensuring future growth through maximising the potential of existing runways remains a major challenge for airports with space constraints. Heathrow Airport provided key insight on the work they are doing to transition from a ‘David Star’ layout to a ‘Toast Rack’ configuration which will allow them to increase capacity. A final thank you to our speakers and attendees for their valuable contributions. What were your key takeaways from the event? #AirportInfra24

Salt Lake City International Airport Phase 3 feature in AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT Magazine River Tunnel Gordon Huether + Partners, Inc. New Blue Connector What used to be a half-mile trek for passengers heading to or from Concourse B is now a much shorter route thanks to six moving walkways flanked on all sides with soothing multi-sensory artwork. Gordon Huether, who created most of SLC’s other major installations, too, used specialized lighting, finish materials and custom terrazzo flooring to design the all-blue tunnel. The artist conjured up an immersive experience for passengers based on the rivers and streams that flow through Utah’s mountains and canyons. He completed the effect by curating a 100-song playlist including Salt Lake City by The Beach Boys, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing Call of the Champions at Temple Square, and Marie Osmond’s In My Own Little Corner of the World. “The Central Tunnel provides quick connections and helps the hub airport flex for future growth,” Needham says of the new infrastructure’s more practical side. As travelers exit the tunnel, they are funneled into Concourse B, where a large glass and steel sculpture titled Northern Light, also by Huether, greets them. On the floor is a giant world map that was relocated from original Terminal 1…..

I need to be in Manchester for a conference next month. It’s significantly cheaper (and quicker) for me to park at Heathrow and fly than it is to get a train from London. Public transport in this country is a mess. #PublicTransport #Sustainability
