A beautiful celebration of many years, many partners, and many learnings.
Special thanks to Julia Lindsay and Haruka Aoyama for making the trip and all their behind the scenes work, support, and incredible enthusiasm ✨

💡 #Brownfields are underused properties where expansion, reuse, or redevelopment is complicated due to the presence (or potential presence) of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. These sites can be cleaned up and become an asset to their communities. However, there is concern about the unintended social impacts that brownfield revitalization projects may have on low-income and minority populations.

Our CEO Warwick Squire recently spent time in Northwestern Queensland meeting with community members to understand their coexistence experiences.
In a speech at the Meeting of the Mines - Cloncurry, he highlighted the importance of our work through defining the 4 c’s of coexistence: Communities, collaboration, coordination and connection:
➡️Working with communities as they are at the heart of fostering mutual respect and sustainable outcomes.
➡️Collaborating to unlock innovative solutions that drive positive change across industries and communities.
➡️Coordinating to help ensure seamless cooperation and alignment in achieving shared goals.
➡️Connection to build strong relationships that bridge the gap between diverse stakeholders.

City and County of Denver // Community Solar Program // McKinstry#ESCOWeek
For the past several years, McKinstry has been a proud partner of the City and County of Denver. More recently, Denver’s Office of Climate Action, Sustainability and Resiliency (CASR) has been working to rapidly and equitably transition the city to 100% renewable electricity by 2030. To accomplish that goal, the city made a $26 million investment in a Community Solar program, increasing equitable access to clean energy in Denver. The Renewable Denver Community Solar Program is one of the biggest investments to date of the Climate Protection Fund, an over $40 million annual fund dedicated to taking climate action. Several of the sites will be implemented at another McKinstry partner, Denver Public Schools. The first Denver Public School site launched in October 2023. Once completed, the 16 city-wide community solar gardens will produce 9.6 million kWh per year, avoiding emissions equivalent to taking 1,000 cars off the road.
McKinstry, a long-time energy partner for both the City and County of Denver and Denver Public Schools, is designing and deploying each of the 16 community solar gardens. Once complete, these gardens will:
- Power buildings with 100% renewable energy.
- Provide shade and cooling during the summer months.
- Donate electricity to give families relief on their utility bills.

More updates from our team working in Shetland this week 👇
It is crucially important that we engage with a range of stakeholders, both to ensure that the scenarios we model are well-informed and to make our results and findings accessible and relevant.

Reflecting on #RE+ 2024 from 33,000 feet above Colorado, I'm grateful for a slew of timely and thoughtful meetings, conversations, and sessions in Anaheim this year where community engagement was front and center. Three takeaways that stand out for me:
-The renewable energy industry has responded to rising community opposition and political polarization by increasingly approaching local siting + permitting with a political campaign mindset. This is a big deal because it's the only way we can keep building renewable generation and transmission at the pace required to meet our emissions reduction goals and maximize the speed and scale of the energy transition.
-A rapidly growing number of nonprofit partners are jumping in to support local siting + permitting efforts. The volume of new groups and activity in this space in the past year is inspiring and is adding impactful voices to the conversation in project communities across the country.
-And about those sheep. It was wonderful to see a vibrant range of agrivoltaics programming this week. Dual use is such an exciting area for innovation and an important story for the industry to tell as we work to build partnerships with rural communities in a way that allows renewable development to complement and support farming and ranching.
A big shout out to Stephanie Zawistowski for leading and participating on multiple panels that elevated the critical importance of early and sustained community engagement across the development pipeline.
Natasha Kalergis Healey and I can't wait to see what we can all accomplish by RE+ next year though continued investment and focus on community engagement by developers, nonprofits, and everyone else who wants to maximize the speed and scale of the energy transition. See you all in Vegas in 2025!

🚨 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁!🚨
Did you know the 𝗘𝗣𝗔 just announced $232 million in grants to clean up Brownfield sites across the country? These areas are exposed to pollutants and hazardous substances, creating environmental and health concerns for nearby communities.
The funding supports:
🛠️ Cleanup Grants - Restoring contaminated properties, making them safe for future use.
📊 Assessment Grants - Prioritizing and assessing sites to guide redevelopment efforts.
💼 Revolving Loan Fund Grants - Offering low-interest loans to support cleanups and redevelopment projects, driving economic growth.
With 64% of U.S. counties impacted by Brownfields, these grants offer a golden opportunity to revitalize abandoned spaces and promote sustainable redevelopment, turning polluted areas into productive community assets.🌱
Grant applications are open until November 14, 2024! Don’t miss the chance to be part of this transformative initiative and CGR Development Partners is here to offer you with any assistance regarding this and other open fundings.
