As women, we've all been there, every month worrying about how to get our hands on good sanitary pads during our monthly period. How many of us have ever thought about the environmental impact of these pads? The truth is, the very thing that brings us relief and comfort during our most vulnerable moments is contributing to the harm of our environment. According to Stanford Magazine, in the United States approximately 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons are discarded every year. Inappropriate disposal of Sanitary pads is a serious environmental threat considering that; •the top layer of a menstrual pad is made out of plastic •ninety percent of a single menstrual pad is made out of plastic •the absorbent part is made of polyacrylate gels which contain plastic. •the back part with adhesive is made of more plastic. •the wrapper and packaging are also made of plastic. •disposable pads are practically impossible to recycle and take approximately 500 years to break down. I know the next question on our minds might be, why not switch to adopt eco-friendly alternatives. Merely switching to eco-friendly options without ensuring equal access for all may exacerbate existing inequalities. We risk leaving behind already vulnerable groups, perpetuating a cycle of exclusion and environmental injustices. I'm committed to advocating for: • increased awareness and education on sustainable menstrual practices in rural communities. • affordable and accessible eco-friendly menstrual products for all, regardless of geographical location or socioeconomic status. • inclusive policy-making that addresses the unique challenges faced by rural communities in adopting sustainable menstrual practices. • collaboration with local organizations and community leaders. The environment is everybody's business, and if we don't advocate for better practices that will safeguard it, we will experience a pandemic!!! #earth #environment #safepractices

Ready to make your menstrual care routine more sustainable? Every year, billions of disposable pads and tampons end up in landfills, but with a few simple changes, you can drastically reduce your waste and make a positive impact on the planet. Here’s a guide on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle in your period care routine: 1. Switch to Reusable Pads 🌿 Reusable pads like Terraverde-Care Pads are a game-changer! They’re washable, durable, and can last for years, reducing the need for disposable products. Plus, they’re made with sustainable materials that are gentle on your skin and the environment. 2. Use a Menstrual Cup 🌱 A menstrual cup is a reusable alternative that can be used for up to 10 years! It’s a fantastic option for reducing single-use plastic and waste, and it’s easy to clean and maintain. 3. Proper Disposal of Disposable Products 🚮 If you do use disposable pads or tampons, always wrap them in biodegradable paper and dispose of them in the trash—never flush them. This prevents waste from entering our water systems and helps protect the environment. 4. Recycle the Packaging ♻️ Many menstrual product brands now offer eco-friendly packaging that’s recyclable. Make sure to separate any recyclable materials and dispose of them responsibly. Look for brands that prioritize sustainable packaging. 5. Compost Biodegradable Pads 🌿 If you’re using biodegradable pads, you can compost them (if they’re made from 100% natural materials like organic cotton or bamboo). This ensures that they break down naturally, reducing their environmental footprint. 6. Educate and Spread the Word 📚 The more we share sustainable practices, the more we can encourage others to make eco-friendly swaps. Talk to your friends, family, and colleagues about how easy it is to reduce menstrual waste and make more sustainable choices. Every small change counts, and when we all work together, we can create a more sustainable future for menstrual care. 💚 What steps have you taken to make your menstrual care routine more sustainable? Share your tips and let’s inspire each other to make a bigger impact! #SustainableSaturday #EcoFriendlyPeriods #TerraverdeCarePads #ReduceReuseRecycle #MenstrualHealth #SustainableLiving #GreenChoices #PeriodCare #EcoWarrior

🌍 Did you know that reusable sanitary pads are not only a sustainable choice but also contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting circular economy principles? ♻️ Here are five ideas to highlight the importance of reusable sanitary pads in achieving the SDGs and advancing the circular economy: 1️⃣ SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being: By using reusable sanitary pads, we can prioritize our health and well-being. These pads are made from safe and non-toxic materials, reducing the risk of allergies, rashes, and infections that can be caused by disposable pads. They provide comfort and peace of mind while promoting a healthier lifestyle. 2️⃣ SDG 5: Gender Equality: Access to affordable and sustainable menstrual products is essential for achieving gender equality. Reusable sanitary pads offer a long-lasting solution, ensuring that menstruating individuals have access to reliable and hygienic products, regardless of their economic status. They empower women and girls by providing them with the freedom to manage their periods with dignity. 3️⃣ SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production: Reusable sanitary pads align with the principles of the circular economy. They reduce the amount of waste generated by disposable pads, which often end up in landfills or contribute to pollution. By choosing reusable options, we can minimize our ecological footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future. 4️⃣ SDG 13: Climate Action: Disposable menstrual products have a significant environmental impact due to their production and disposal. Reusable sanitary pads help mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and energy consumption associated with the production and disposal of disposable pads. By making this switch, we can actively contribute to climate action. 5️⃣ SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals: Embracing reusable sanitary pads requires collaboration among various stakeholders, including manufacturers, NGOs, and consumers. By raising awareness and promoting dialogue around reusable options, we can foster partnerships that drive innovation, improve accessibility, and create a positive impact on health, the environment, and society as a whole. Let's celebrate the positive impact of reusable sanitary pads on achieving the SDGs and building a more sustainable future for everyone. Join the movement towards reusable products and make a difference for our planet and communities. ♻️🌍 #SustainablePeriods #ReusableSanitaryPads #SDGs #CircularEconomy #HealthAndWellbeing #GenderEquality #ResponsibleConsumption #ClimateAction #PartnershipsForGoals #FollowThePodcast #InnovateForChange #DignifyHer #Caryle
