Why should there be more diversity within sectors such as construction? How to address the problem through assisted technology solutions? And what early results of pilots for integration of social equality practices are there? These questions will be addressed during the webinar given by the InCUBE project on 17 September. This InCUBE Project EU is one of the projects New Energy Coalition is working on and aims to make the renovation process of existing buildings in the European Union more sustainable. New Energy Academy students are welcome to attend the webinar ‘Empowering Social Inclusion in Construction’ to learn more about the need of diversity within the construction industry. At SSE Energy Solutions, we strive to leave a positive impact on the communities in which we work. One of the ways that we do this is by challenging inequality through inclusive recruitment and inspiring low-carbon career education. Our Social Value team powers change by working with transition schemes and education centres across the UK to help educate and encourage young people to make the move into low carbon work. Becoming a trusted community partner through investing in local people is a key pillar in our strategy, as the impact we have on the local community is just as important as delivering net zero. Panel Spotlight 📢 Join us for a transformative discussion on the intersection of renewable energy and environmental justice, with a focus on advancing critical objectives of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). This panel will explore how renewable energy initiatives can be designed, led, and implemented to ensure that marginalized and underserved communities—especially those disproportionately impacted by environmental and economic disparities—are prioritized in the nation's clean energy transition. We will highlight the importance of uplifting BIPOC leadership and fostering meaningful community engagement in initiatives that address key national goals, such as energy resilience, wraparound social interventions, workforce development, and equitable access to clean energy. Together, we’ll examine strategies and discuss how companies and organizations can and have supported these initiatives through thoughtful program design, strong partnerships with BIPOC-led groups, and sustainable, equitable funding strategies. We will accept registrations on-site: https://lnkd.in/ehND_Hs

How bottom-up and top-down governance of community energy initiatives affects citizens’ perceptions, acceptability, and willingness to join Community energy initiatives (CEIs) can potentially foster a #sustainable #energy #transition. Yet, few citizens participate in them. This paper examines how CEI governance influences their appeal. 👇
🔋Congratulations to our colleagues Lise Jans, Fleur Goedkoop and Goda Perlaviciute on the publication of a new paper about community energy initiatives in Energy Policy! 🔋Community energy initiatives (CEIs) can potentially foster a #sustainable #energytransition, yet few citizens participate in them. 🔋 What are CEIs? They're initiatives aiming to promote sustainable energy within a specific community through raising awareness, providing information, or encouraging individual or collective sustainable energy production or consumption. 🔋In the paper, which was co-authored by Karen Hamann, Torsten Masso, and Bram Burgerhof, the researchers looked into how much it matters that #communityenergyinitiatives (#CEIs) are actually seen as being community-led, as opposed to governed externally by municipal government or other enterprises, and why that matters when it comes to people getting involved in them. 🔋The researchers propose that community members' and external parties' involvement in CEI governance affects their appeal through different pathways: 🟢External parties' involvement may boost the CEI's perceived collective #efficacy to advance a sustainable transition 🟢Community members' involvement may enhance perceived identity leadership, reflecting the extent to which the initiative is fostering ‘us’ as a local community. 🔋The paper – “How bottom-up and top-down governance of community energy initiatives affects citizens’ perceptions, acceptability, and willingness to join” is part of the December 2024 volume of Energy Policy. 🔋Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/efStkSNn University of Groningen Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences - University of Groningen #environmentalpsychology
